Just bought a record player, and uh... now what?

Hey hey ~ and guess what I found at the charity shop today...

Cool!
/.../ Judie Tzuke (great scrabble name) /.../

Names aren't allowed in Scrabble :p

ETA:

EARLYSTART.jpg

But I play scrabble by my rules :p And bugger you with your big collection and vertical deck ~ you make me feel so amateur
I'm gonna start spinning the vinyl about 9pm but I'm already into the Leibfraumilch

Play by whatever rules you want -just don't play with me with your own rules :p

The vertical 'boom box' player is a thing from my past. It was a nice machine back in the day when I got it in order to be able to 'move light'.

These days I have dad's old...

SharpOptonica.jpg

Sharp Optonica RP-5100

...and his old records and my sisters vinyl to boot -only about two thirds of my collection was actually mine from the beginning...

Shiraz for me -and considering lasagna for dinner (couldn't find any decent shrimp for the starter, don't know how to make the Kiev thing and really shouldn't be eating a lot of cake :( ) But, hey, lasagna didn't really got to be known here till Garfield made it popular -back in the seventies when it still was a good cartoon.

Ain't that the truth about Garfield and Lasangne ~ I never ate it until he approved it :guffaw:

Ok, so here's my, somewhat dusty, equipment...

Comes complete with aerobic cat and hair salon:hugegrin:

Oh and Pingfah you have totally won the Queen appreciation award *toot toot*

Not many discreet components in that I'm afraid.

That seventies feel.

Supertramp_-_Crime_of_the_Century.jpg
Check
Just heard most of that while I had to resurrect my system after an BSOD

My entire Queen collection:

MyONLYQueenalbum.jpg

Not very check :(

Edit:

There's actually two reasons why I have my dad's old record player:
1 - he didn't much felt like playing records any more.
2 - the speed was uncontrollable: sometimes it would go VERY fast -only the next moment to go VERY slow.
Gave you that 'rollercoaster'-feel when listening to records at the parent's place

When he gave it to me I took it apart and vacumed all the dog's hairs out of it, and now it runs like a piece of Japanese Hi-Fi equipment :bolian:

2'nd Edit:

As you can see from the image I'm listening to my vinyl with headphones -for that seventies feel™

Plus: now listening to:

Your Queen collection made me :guffaw: Good try, but even I have two. We're just not in Pingfah's league.

I see your lamps, candles and 70's rock... But I raise you with Rick Wakeman and incense...

014.jpg

Currently listening to Rick Wakeman, but it seems like a very poor imitation of War of the Worlds (and obviously without Mr Burton's voice) so may have to switch to Sade...

I just have to say, I'm enjoying the fact that I've sparked a minor tradition despite not having a working player myself, yet: :guffaw:

And I hope you don't mind us using your thread Canadave, but we do eagerly await photos of your 'appreciation of the God that is Vinyl'
Speaks K', whilst 'doing the Harlem Shuffle' *move to the right and smooze to the left*... Shaking it down...

Yo and now 'It's the Power of Love' Boogie on...

AHA! - So you're the culprit! -gotta remember that... although, my memory isn't what it used to be and I blame the seventies :p

Queen wasn't really my thing before the CD came along -ELO, BJH and -as you probably have gathered- Supertramp were.

Now listening to a three-record-album (prolly just the one side though) of Doors (sure it's recorded between '68 and '70, but it's OK for Vinyl Friday™ -I assure you!)

I see your incense, and here's my sleeveless denim jacket...

Oh man, here's something weird. Take a closer look at the photo I posted of that vast amount of Queen records. Your entire Queen collection is the one and only Queen record I do not own  I have every LP and single released on vinyl apart from the Flash LP.

Of course I have it on CD, in the UK issue and the US issue, but I do not have it on vinyl. Just never came across it I guess.

I feel a deal coming on ~ I am trekkiedanes middle man and therefore command 20% from both parties
Trust me :shifty:

I actually noticed that! :rommie:

Which is why I just HAD to photograph my record.

I know, pretty embarrasing... but hey; it's the internet! if I can't take a little embarrassment I shouldn't be here ;)

Meanwhile... I've been thinking about maybe putting something on the TV, but a DVD (or something from an USB-key) would be outside the Seventies Feel™ so I put on a VHS and got that Seventies Feel™ FOR REAL:

NoVHStoday.jpg

Now listening to:

ZiggyStardust.jpg
Darn - time to flip it over:)

Do not get me going on VHS...

004-1.jpg

Up for sale at £40 including a free bag of golf balls. 2 weeks ~ no takers

Ah, but I only ever bought about a dozen pre-recorded tapes ;)

As you see that was tape #157 -in the latter third of my tapes -with each eight hours of recording

ETA: that VHS-machine n the picture is MONO

Now I had the feel for some DISCO :wtf: so I put on Adriano Celentano:

GeppoilFolle.jpg

Oh I'm chillin' to Sade now... So much so my head is on my arm which is slowly sliding off the table...
Meatloaf ~ NOW

ps. Why is that woman so interested with the man's bottom?

Wow! -That surely feels like: more red wine!

Oh do keep up sonny ~ I'm back to Rick Wakemans 'Journey to somewhere or other...'
Pass the wine td *hic* passes the spliff

*Whiffffff*

Whhhhat is this? -a wizhhhhhard?

Here -I'll hold the box: you just hold your glass and release the valve.

Allow me to put on the next record:

AlbumCovers-EricClapton-Slowhand197.jpg

And: NO, I've never tried it nor felt like trying it! -the spliff is the way for me!

ETA:

That guy, Rick whatever, never heard of him! -and the album to the Earth or something only has three seeders right now (so I guess I'll actually have to BUY it!)

Edit 2:

Hmmm, maybe not, Second NOT seventies record for the night -how do you feel about German rock?:

Cheers, closes valve and drinks from chalice.
Rick Wakeman ~ the guy behind 'Yes'. And 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' is actually quite awesome in a 70's kinda way. Recorded 1974 with the London Symphony Orchestra.

German rock ~ I am intrigued and also slightly tipsy *goes of to search for German Rock and hopes she does not misspell the second word*

I've heard off Yes! :bolian:
But from where I'm sitting it is a strictly UK-thing.......

Spliff, however, were probably strictly a German thing (here's a thingamagoo -live- from that album) (and here's the audio of another song (you're bound to recognize this one)).

AND, I've just come to think of my desktop -Desktop Earth- which displays the world as an animation of the entire Earth as a sun-clock thing:

Desktop.jpg

NOW!

Is from a site called Code from the 70s.org
