Just bought a PS3... where do I start?

Call of Duty, 4, COD: W@W and MW2 are pretty good. I hope you will be getting Black Ops next week. You have to try Zombies mode in W@W.

I'd play the God of War Collection before God of War III. The Uncharteds are must plays for every PS3 owner, IMHO. I wasn't that impressed with the Resistance franchise, but a lot of people swear by it.

Nothing to add to what's already been mentioned, except this: Get Gran Turismo 5 as soon as it hits.

(Unless you hate cars for some reason )

Having only recently purchased a PS3 myself the following games really got me hooked for the past couple months:

Bioshock
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Street Fighter IV

I'm working my way through God of War 1 and 2 now. Fun games but not quite drawing me in the same way Bioshock of Ninja Gaiden have.

I'm considering Modern Warefare, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, or maybe Red Dead Redemption as my next purchase.

RDR is epic. I'm not even that big on the GTA series (I disliked GTA4) but RDR is a whole other kettle of fish. You'd have to include it on any list of PS3 'must have' games.

yeah, but Mass Effect 2 is being ported over to the PS3 next year, so if ME3 does indeed release around Christmas 2011, it'll likely be for the Xbox, PC, and the PS3.

360 still has first right I think to the game so any PS3 version would come out later but to be honest I don't see ME 3 coming out till Jan 2012 so Uncharted 3 will have free reign in November 2011.

Jan/Feb 2012 would be my guess as well, and I'm pretty sure you're right, it'll hit the 360 first, and then there will be a subsequent port to the PS3 some time later.

Still can't get into Infamous. I finished Prototype though, and I hear they are much the same kind of thing.

Infamous drives me nuts. I love the concept, but the execution is so poor. I go back to the game every now and then in the hopes that I was just in a bad mood the last time I played. I come away disappointed every time.

Yeah there is just something a bit... I dunno.. backyard amateurish.. about the look of it all. I think Prototype fared better in that regard.

It's not really even the look of it. Its something about how the game plays and feels. The most obvious example is the generic thugs on rooftops that can snipe you perfectly from a mile away. It's a game that could have used another couple months in development to tweak and refine the gameplay.

^^^Its difficult to get into but once you do its brilliant, i got my plat trophy not so long ago, what i loved about the game was the different way you could play it, good or evil, with the appropriate powers to match your choice but once you start rail grinding and sniping in slow motion your in for a treat....but there is no denying its a hard game to pick up and get into.

I thought it was very repetetive. Most of the missions were the same.

BTW, to the OP, I'd recommend getting Playstation Plus. It's well worth it, especially if you are new to the console and don't already have a lot of games.

I just finished MGS4. It was amazing (even if the story got a little batshit towards the end).

Great experience though. I only have time to play 1 game at a time, so now I'm debating between:

Assassin's Creed 2
Uncharted 2
Demon's Soul
Infamous

I tried the demo of UC2, and the presentation was fantastic. I found the hide-and-shoot combat to not be all that fun though. I dunno, its reviews are so rapturous though that I feel like it will still be good.

I also liked Infamous' demo too but it didn't let you sandbox much at all. Basically I am worried in both cases that I get bored of "all action" combat. I tend to enjoy stealthy and unique combat more (MGS4 and Arkham Asylum are to games I love), which is why I lean towards Assassin's Creed 2.

Did you play Uncharted 1 first? It might be better that way, to see where the characters came from, not to mention the huge leap they were able to make between games.

I'm interested in getting a PS3, and would like a little info on the web browser. I'm getting conflicting reports and would like to clear something up. What I'd like to know is, can you use the browser and go to one of the network sites like CBS or ABC, and stream tv series from their sites? I've read conflicting information that non pc devices like this are blocked,, but I've never been able to find out for sure if this is the case.
Other than Netflix, and VUDU, what over kinds of streaming services-free or subscription, can you access?
Thanks.

The browser is quite old, so it all depends on what type of format the streaming is using, but the browser is a after thought so certainly don't be getting a Ps3 simply for the browser.

You can also buy/rent movies from the PSN store, that's about all i know those services as i don't use them myself.

Disregard the PS3 browser.

The PS3 browser is a piece of crap. It was total crap in 2006 and completely useless in 2010. Do not expect it to do anything other than very basic web browsing. I checked CBS and it does not work. I would assume that this goes for other streaming sites. Youtube is worthless. Low Res video, plus the site is completely broken.
