just an idea on a new series

I don't know. reading the beginning and middle made me think of Voyager. The ship sounds interesting and the story plot.

sorry but it sounds terrible.

another malfunction in the drive sends them to unknown space?

no thanks.

"new trek series" ideas are a dime-a-dozen here and this one doesn't stand out in any way.

no offense meant, I honestly doubt I could think of anything better. But whether -I- could do better or not is irrelevant. This idea just sounds extremely bad and would probably get canceled faster then SG:U

Its already cancelled so you lost that bet.(SGU)

Its not terrible, just needs a little touch up work. Maybe a different reason why they are where they are.
Ships battling constantly will bring in the newer generation of trekkies.

I’d be lying if I said I’m entirely sold on this idea, but it has potential

Firstly – crew evaluation.

The CO would be human, and have a strong grounding in engineering.

There really isn’t anything there to find interesting. What is it that distinguishes this CO from Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Archer, or any other commanding officer?

The XO would also be human, but be female, and have experience in tactical tasks.

Has potential but again there’s nothing substantial here to grasp onto.

The CMO would be a hologram, but fitted with an internal mobile emitter, similar to the one the Doctor had in Voyager.

… So in other words, just another Doc? Unless you made the character female this seems like just a rehash of an already existing character. A hologram with a different position aboard the ship seems like it would offer more depth.

The Security/Tactical officer would be Andorian

I like the idea of having a ‘blue head’ as a main character. Andorian. Bolian. Whatever. This character seems like the strongest link mentioned.

Whilst the flight controller is Tellarite.

Strange but I like this too.

Moreover, there would be no ship's counsellor as a principal character

Why? Does this mean there would be counselor at all? Or just not one who would regularly be featured?

The chief engineer would also be the Ops officer, since these roles largely overlap, and require the same skill sets/competencies to perform. In this case, the chief engineer would be present on the bridge to a large degree, and have a team lead (who is not often seen on screen) to manage things in the Engineering section when he she (,i.e. the chief engineer) is not present there.

Another idea I like. If you gave the team lead a recurring role such as that of Reginald Barclay (always on board, just not always seen) I think this could be interesting.

Concerning your ship…

Too much transwarp is not a good thing, but it could be used to good effect providing you have it as an experimental type thing, which is what seems to be suggested. Maybe have it used sparingly in the beginning of the series but more frequently as the series progresses. This would receive a certain amount of criticism from some members of the audience but so long as they remain a minority that’s not a problem.

Done right transwarp could add an interesting edge and provide more uncharted space for exploration.

Finally…

Humans as the enemies

Going back to the very beginning of this thread I agree strong characterisation, talented actors, and varying degrees of conflict (yes I paraphrased) are the best elements of Star Trek. However, I’d add symbolism between the species as another. Starfleet is the United Nations and each species represents another member of the World Government, as another worthy element.

Humans as the enemies doesn’t really work on that scale, unless you consider using them as a token for self reflection. What would we be like if we’d been raised in a different environment? Under a different chain of belief? Does the society we know hinder our progression or has it impacted us for the better?

If Character A grows up in the city surrounded by family, friends, various forms of luxury and entertainment, etc and Character B grows up as a solitary wild man of the forest what happens if both characters happen to encounter one another? How do they compare?

Or what if the humans on the other side of the galaxy are less comparative to humans of Starfleet and more comparative to humans of the present day or mirror universe?

As mentioned at the top of this post overall I believe this idea has potential, but also leaves room for improvement.

I like the idea of humans as adversaries. And I've thought of a way for it to be plausible for the kidnapped empire to make enemies of the Federation. Perhaps their only contact has been though aliens? Maybe the kidnapped humans became xenophobic because of their experience and so don't offer the tolerance toward others the Federation does, so when they see vessels flying the Earth flag with Vulcan and Andorian officers outranking human officers, they assume the humans are slaves and wage war instantly.

I don't think it would take a whole series to convinced the kidnapped empire that we're not slaves, but we coexist, but it could take a whole story arc.

I'm going to change the "broken transwarp" idea a bit. Perhaps the transwarp theory is proven sound in jumps on paper, but in practice it proves to be impossible to predict the jump, so that you would never know where or when you would end up.

Here are a couple humans-as-adversaries notions:

-Augments discover time travel and invade the future. Think KHAAAANN!!! but a whole lot more of them. So they're human, but also very inhuman, because they are genuinely superior not only to current humans but also to other alien species.

-The Terran Empire discovers a way to keep a permanent portal open to the regular universe. Since the Feddies are bleeding heart liberal wimps, they are pushovers for the aggressive tactics of the Terran Empire. (The Terran Empire will have to be rewritten a bit, because they're highly dysfunctional and that will prevent them from being a credible threat. They should behave more like the Borg, highly cohesive, and less like the space pirates they actually are.)

I'm not looking to pitch to Paramount about this, but it's just something I thought of the other day, and thought could be cool if somehow implemented.

I thought that since spock took over the terran empire that it was dismattled, so it would have to be the klingons and cardassians who open a portal, but they also suffered defeat. I don't think that the terran empire is a possible scenario.

Typically, if a proposal's basic concept needs a few paragraphs to be fleshed out, then its not gonna take for a series.

Fan fiction on the other hand... go for it. You have increased license to take your time fleshing things out, building lore, etc.

I'd agree with your original idea though I'd have to add the fact that the planet has an obelisk on the planet, (Preserver in origin,) that up until now has remained suppressed.

But, with the Borg now gone (thanks to the Caeliar,) the Jem Hadar / Vorta have been sniffing around trying to figure out how to annex/exploit it for a variety of resources. The obelisk has been forced to ramp up its efforts to shield/contain the planet from threats (hence the now-overt energy reading.)

I wouldn't use transwarp as it should be comfortably within reach of the Cardassians, Tzinkethi, Federation, etc. I'd make the sector this world inhabits forbidden / cursed by old wives' tales of ships/away teams disappearing within its' reach.

The obelisk has been doing whatever it can to blow up ships either leaving its' surface or attempting to sail into its' atmosphere from outside it's sensor range. Something goes wrong and the obelisk ceases to function, effectively releasing custody of its (warp-capable and severely aggressive) Mirror Universe-type inhabitants.

The U.S.S. Mumbai, an Envoy-Class starship in the wrong place at the wrong time ends up arriving to witness the Dominion vessel caught red-handed in Federation space, getting its butt handed to it by the (your race's name here). When the XXXXXXXX are done with the Dominion, they discover the presence of the Mumbai.
