Yeah, I read somewhere that Colin Trevorrow asked for the product placement and it had nothing to do with the studio or paid sponsors.

Complaints about it seem a little misguided anyway. Have you seen a zoo/amusement park lately? It would be weird if Jurassic World wasn't filled with branding.

I just got back from seeing this. Maybe I might be a bit more forgiving because I haven't OD'd on these kinds of movies. At least I don't recall seeing JR 2 & 3 and I haven't seen the original JP for about twenty years.

Because of that I give it a B+. I didn't expect much more than what I got and for that it was generally satisfying. That said there was a strong element of predictability to it. A lot of characters you just knew were going to get chomped and no surprises on that front. While I enjoyed Chris Pratt's character I also found pretty much all of them rubber stamped caricatures. They served their purposes yet brought little real dimension to the roles.

It was fun as well as creepy and amusing in the right spots. But there was little unforseen and little depth.

I really enjoyed it. It took me a while to get into it but once I was, it was hooked. Who would have thought old franchises like Mad Max and Jurassic Park would have produced maybe the two best movies of the summer so far? I really enjoyed Ultron too.

The CGI is as good as ever and the dinosaur action is top-notch. The cast was fine but as always, the dinosaurs ruled. The product placement didn't bother me too much. It was more in the background and they didn't take time out of the movie to plug it.

The show I saw was absolutely packed and the audience loved it.

There were a lot of references to the earlier movies which the audience seemed to enjoy. The continuity was fun to catch. But, getting the cars up and running quickly after 20 yrs was a stretch to the imagination. Of course, once you believe that dinosaurs can be bred again and trained....well, anything goes.

To be honest this one is pretty close to the original for me. When I watched it yesterday evening it felt like when I saw the first one all those years ago.

So how long until the next sequel...

It was enjoyable enough, but I really don't see where else this can go. The basic premise is dinosaurs get loose and cause mayhem. How many variations can you get out of that. It's little more than the sci-fi monster movies of the '50s.

Depends where they want to go? You could do some pretty interesting stuff with weaponized dinosaurs.

World War D, anyone?

Not sure what else they can do with the amusement park going haywire and kids being in danger?

Well, the next one can be about
the military making combat dinos... who get loose and cause mayhem.

B+

Pretty entertaining movie. Story wasn't all that complex or original, but the action sequences were fun and suspenseful and it was surprisingly cool getting to see what a fully operational dinosaur theme park actually looked like.

Although really... 20 years later and they still can't make dinosaurs look convincing in the daylight? I could have sworn I've seen much better CGI than that recently, with movies like Rise of the Planet of the Apes or District 9. Pretty much every dinosaur in this movie looked distinctly fake and CGish to me, which I found really surprising.

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. They were able to make this fourth movie work, but they seemingly had to throw every last idea and dinosaur into it that they could find (a fully operational park! trained dinosaurs! newly invented dinosaurs! soldiers vs dinosaurs!). It's hard to imagine what more they could really do that wouldn't just feel like a variation of the previous movies.

Universal's official weekend estimate for Jurassic World is $204,596,380 @JurassicPark

HUGE NUMBERS!

That's the second biggest opening weekend of all time! There is a chance that it becomes number one, and beats Avengers when the actual numbers come in on Monday! :D

There's a line in the film that really does sum up the overall lack of authenticity to the dinosaurs--that they were all genetic modifications where they had to implant current DNA to make up for missing information (or something like that). In a way that gives the story an out because one can argue that it's impossible to recreate a millions of years extinct species with one hundred percent accuracy.

Recreating (at least in theory) what these creatures must have really been like involves a fair degree of speculation and guess work (albeit educated speculation and guesswork) extrapolating from the millions of years old remains and studying current species bearing some similarities. But without being able to study these animals firsthand when they were alive there's a limit to what they can know for certain.

It can still make for an entertaining film. That said I somewhat expected to see some feathered dinosaurs given whats been discovered since the original JP was made.

That was a fundamental plot point of the original novel. They used the genes of a creature that can change gender if needed to reproduce and that's how they were able to make babies in the wild.

Since I haven't seen it for twenty years I have an urge to revisit the original JP.

I will say that I like them bringing new characters to the story rather than bringing back previous ones. I think it helped to make it seem a bit fresher.

Yeah it's strange how they seemed to backtrack on that, after introducing some slightly more feathered velociraptors in the last movie.

But then, a big story point in this movie was how everything in the park had been designed and focus grouped to death beforehand, and so maybe their research told them people simply prefer dinosaurs without feathers.

That or the fact that velociraptors looking like reptilian chickens probably kills the menace.

Seriously how threatening would these guys be exactly

Guess on what they actually looked like

Not exactly the feared dinosaurs that should have never been bred.
