July Writing Challenge - Major Malfunction

Our challenge theme for the month of July is "Major Malfunction." The challenge is to write a story where something goes terribly wrong: a ship suffers a major system breakdown, a character suffers a severe physical, emotional, or psychological breakdown, etc. In short - something gets broke! Whether or not it gets fixed is up to you.

The rules: (Yada, yada, yada)
Any Star Trek era is acceptable, whether canon or your own created characters. Word limit is 3000. A link to your entry must be posted in this thread to qualify. Please submit original work only, not a story that has been previously posted.

Deadline for submission:
31 July at 11:59 p.m., GMT.

ooh...

I do like the first few days of a challenge - where I get all the ideas, but I haven't reached the point of realising I can't make any of them into a coherent story!

Same here.
Well, sometimes I do eventually come up with a more or less coherent story which I frantically work on to submit it shortly before the deadline. I'm not good at plotting, so I don't really have any idea what malfunction to write about, just some ideas concerning the era and characters.

Gonna have to think on this for awhile.

I'm assuming we actually have to depict the breakdown in progress, and not just the aftermath...

OK, then...

It's all going to depend, then, on whether or not I can stay within the word limit, because I have a definite candidate of an idea.

Has anyone done a story about the Holodeck malfunctioning? What if it was Dr. Crusher stuck in side and Wesley had to rescue her?:guffaw:

I have something-not sure how to make it hit 3000 but it's about the Delaney Sisters...Dunno' I'll probably write something fast and dirty instead...

RevdKathy was last online on Saturday. I'd give her til tomorrow before PM-ing her - give her time to catch up after the weekend.

I think I might be able to deal with this one.

It's time to expand my part of the United Trek universe. After all, I do have plenty of people to play around with. And lots of stories to tell.

What era is your story set in, Nerys Ghemor?

I'm still trying to figure out my plot, and I don't want to read stories that might intersect with mine so I'm not influenced by them.

But I don't want to wait until I've finished writing to read your story!
