July Art Contest - ThomastheCat: Trek plus Clancy

So given that all of my entries will be relatively simple photoshops I'm going to rely on quantity over quality for this month's contest. The theme is what if Gene worked with another famous artist or author to create Trek and I chose Tom Clancy.

Not that I've even read one Clancy novel, but I have a gist of what he's about and I have always been interested in a very detail-heavy nuts and bolts interpretation of the Trek mythos...so what if Clancy guided Gene to take a more political and militaristic view of the Star Trek universe? What if, instead of writing about real world politics and military, Clancy himself wrote about Star Trek politics and militaries?

These questions and more I will seek to answer in my humble entries to this month's art contest. I'll be riffing a lot on covers from Clancy's novels and derivative works, so bear with me. If anyone has any suggestions about how to move the concept deeper still I'd appreciate them.

Anyway, the first pair:

"Blue 31" is nicely done, buuuuuut...

You do realize that the Six in Rainbow Six refers to the unit commander, and isn't the unit number, right?

I do! I looked up the real book while working on that and found that out... The balancing act here is to decide which way to lean with these...more "Trek" or more "Clancy"...for this one I decided to lean more "Trek" with the Section 31 thing just because that was the joke that was easier to get.

Plus, I want to synthesize things that are a bit deeper than "The Trek of All Fears LOL..." which means (to me) taking Clancy things and Trek things and blending them together into something that's not exactly either but is obviously both...Does that make sense?

Thanks! Again, glad you are digging these. I am going to take some time to do the back and sides of the game box as well... but I don't think I'll spend any time doctoring the Elite Force screenshots for those...

I think I am going to enter the whole body of work as my entry, maybe use photshop trickery to make a bookshelf or a stack of books or something. We'll see...

Great idea! I really like the Hunt for Quonos 2 one. That's my favourite. The red's really striking, for a start.

ThomastheCat - "The Sum of All Fears" would make a great Trek cover. Personally, I think it would apply to the events in ST VI best, but I can't argue with your "Hunt for Kronos 2" Cover.

I am not up on DS9, but IIRC, there was a practice by the enemy to go on suicide runs (kamikaze runs for lack of a better term) to destroy ships (a Galaxy class was one of the ships, agan - IIRC). Given the events in the book, perhaps one of these ships crashes into either "Federation 1" (the UFP President's starship) or into UFP HQ taking out the Federation President and several other highly ranked members of the UFP.


Just a thought - take it and run with it. These are looking great so far.
