Julian Assange arrested

For the most part it seems that if you agree with Wikileaks then Assange is a unfairly maligned victim of an international conspiracy, a gentleman and a scholar. If you don't he's a smelly egomaniacal rapist.

I agree with Wikileaks, but I also think Assange is smelly and egomaniacal.

Me too. I don't support everything they do but I think the core of their mission is sound. The problem is that they're run by a lunatic asshole.

But now there's competition such as OpenLeaks, so I suppose the whole thing will shake itself out and we'll be left with only the organizations that do this intelligently and aren't run by arrogant blowhards.

I do sort of enjoy how wound up people get about Assange, though. He's not even the one stealing information, he just publishes it, but to hear some people talk you would think he personally killed informants and snatched their data.

I think it's more that some people can't simply accept that their government, especially some Americans, are doing all this bad stuff.

They also falsely claim that Assange has some big ax to grind with the US because he "only targets us," which isn't true at all. Wikileaks exposes the naughty business of all kinds of governments, most of it just never makes news over here.

Well, I disagree with both of you. I think Assange is a smelly gentleman.

It's the old "kill the messenger" bit.

That doesn't sit well with the fact that the women making the allegations live in Sweden, which I would have thought is highly regarded for protecting human rights....

That depends on whose rights, which rights, and who defines them. I've heard many people suggest Sweden is really pretty poor when it comes to protecting and acknowledging rights, at least when those rights conflict with the ideological agendas of the government and its various backers.

Yep, you'll never find this on mainstream media.....like FOX, CNN, MS-NBC, etc.....since they only say what they are allowed/ordered to say.

One finds that if one turns off that TV, and research things, and looks for info themselves....it's so damned obvious, but they can't see it, or don't want to see it.

Reminds me of the closing bit of the Doctor Who episode, "Smith and Jones", when an entire hospital in London vanished, via alien intervention, and some blond airhead went, "There were no aliens involved, it said so on the news!"

It's like if someone in a suit or in a position of high authority says something on TV screen, it's gotta be the truth.

It's like, "We hate out government, and do not trust them.....yet we'll still listen and believe in them!" That's like a woman who gets beaten up by her husband/boyfriend on a daily basis and still believes he's a great guy.

It's so sad.

Let's hope some more brains start to work come December 2012 or something, otherwise the human race won't last much longer if we keep living in our TV and medication influenced stupor.

That's crap. Now I agree that they're not framing it this way, but it's for their own stupid reason (it doesn't fit their narrative that they can sell), but the government doesn't control the media in this country.

I think this is where you and I part philosophical company.
