judexavier's Klingon Fighter in 3D

Hey ladies and gents

Due to this being someone round here's design, I decided to create a special thread for it. Hope that's ok.

Anyhow, I, like many of you saw and was blown away by judexavier's Klingon fighter design.

For those who haven't seen it, the original design can be found here: http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=126238

Well, anyway, I loved it so much, that I decided to have a go at it in 3D, and with judexavier's permission, am now posting it here for all to see.

Enjoy!

Not bad. :)

Somehow, though, yours seems more frail than the drawing. Judexavier's seems a little wider, and the wings seem to have more thickness to them.

It is an awesome design, though. :)

Oh that's awesome! Love that motion-blurred "screen-cap" image. What software/format is that in?

I made it in Cinema 4D, and its a still from a lil animation I made of it spinning/firing while moving toward the camera head on. It's not much to see and its rather short, but if you wanna take a look i'll gladly upload it for ya.

Well, i've attempted to "bulk" it up somewhat, but I feel this is fits best in the "universe" of trek as a cheap, light and maneuverable fighter with 2 big guns on the front and little Armour. The Klingon's would wanna charge in their guns blazing as fast as possible without giving a damn about their own protection.

Anyhows, i've added bits and bobs to it, along with the patented Klingon greeblepipes you see everywhere.

That looks better. :) It looks like you moved the "shoulders" angle up a little too, didn't you?

You need to build an image now with these guys swarming a Fed ship. :)

I wonder if this awesome design can be fleshed out in plastic model kit parts :)

awesome pictures here :) :techman:

LOL, kaisernathan1701 :). That's what I've decided to do, just to brush off my moldy crusty modeling "skills"...well, for starters, kit-bash a little prototype, figure out how to make the wings move...(the parts I've collected so far would make the thing about 8-10" long)

Madman, yes:), I thought it might look neat to see them swarming DAC's NX-01.5, getting all blasted to bits, like TIE's ambushing the Falcon in ANH...:)

Could so, but I always thought this was a TMP era design, so, why not something more era specific? ;)

(Apologies for the cheapness of the image, had to make it quick before I go out :p)

Just had an idea. Imagine you had a full sized Bird of Prey that had two of these fighters, one on each wingtip in place of weapons--something to release in an asteroid belt to follow tiny Orion pirates or something?

^Why would you go to the trouble of removing weapons from the ship when you could just have the fighters in the shuttlebay?

I don't think Bird of Preys of the 23rd and 24th Centuries have shuttlebays, or at least the B'rel class ships don't. The K'vort probably has, although I have no idea where it would be.

We did see the 22nd Century Bop have one though. I reckon this kinda ship would probably be carried on a K'Tinga cruiser instead, although the idea of a BOP rapidly deploying some in a suicide mission that way does sound pretty cool.

You are right, sir:) Wonderful image. (God I envy you 3D people) :)

This is what you get when the Klingons start making TIE fighters for the Empire.

At the risk of sounding like too much of a geek even for this place, I'll point out that it's actually more reminiscent of the old Sith Empire fighter from the pre-pre-pre-pre-quel days.

Judexavier, you should ortho that puppy stat!

I just thought that two of these things at the tips of a BOP would look nice, having each wing end in a sideways T-shape.
