Journey's End

Melakon

Admiral
In Memoriam
Okay, this is the one where Wesley comes back for one final big send-off and gets mixed up with Native American Indians, though since they're on another planet I guess they're not really natives anymore.

The biggest problem I had with this is why does the Traveler go through this big masquerade pretending he's a member of the tribe. Or is he really a member of the tribe? If so, how and when did he first hook up with them? They've been on that planet for 20 years.

Then when he reveals who he really is, he has some really creepy line like "I've waited a long time for this, Wesley."

Anyway, having the Indian guy teaching Wesley all about spirit circles and then revealing that he's really just the Traveler pretending to be an Indian guy seems pretty dishonest to me for a guy who supposedly has Wesley's best interests at heart.

Agreed. This was another average S7 episode, which could have touched back on the Traveler/Wesley relationship in a more meaningful way.

I was a bit torn about Wesley's decision regarding leaving Starfleet in the episode. He'd been so enthusiastic about being in the academy throughout the show, so to throw it all away felt a bit glib. I think it was just the way this episode was written made it all mediocre.

Best Wesley episode by far was The First Duty , where he covered up a death to protect a friend, and had to deal with Picard's thoughts on the matter. Now that moral dilemma was tense.

Final Mission is pretty good too. That was a far better send off than Journey's End. I imagine Gene rolling over in his grave when they wrote Wes quitting Starfleet.

I also got the idea with Nemesis that the producers thought they made a mistake, and wanted him back in Starfleet, as he was in a uniform in his deleted scene.

...could the Traveler have meant something to the Native Americans separate and apart from Wesley, but also in conjunction knowing they (he and Wesley) would interact?...
