Jonathan Nolan developing Asimov's Foundation to HBO

Back on topic, I would really appreciate a series where the integrity of the short stories remain intact. In other words, each episode is an interpretation of one of the stories in the series--with the connected stories and novels being interpreted as such.

How long would you want each episode be?

90 minutes? Viewing audience attention span.

How long would you want each episode be?

Each short story would be one or two episodes--the novella length stories and the novels would be "appropriate" length :klingon:

If I understand you correctly, theenglish if TV episodes are the way this shakes out, then that is what I want. Movies are another matter. Oh, boy, how I hope...

HBO needs a new series with Game of Thrones winding down soon. Foundation could be a big hit--if the characters spend a lot of their time in brothels of course.

"brothels"....ah, brothels, I thought you wrote "brothers"

Now THAT might precipitate a Seldon Crisis.

Any given square inch of the Imperial Palace might be indistinguishable from the movie Caligula?

'Course there was that one scene...

I like your comparison to Flash and Co., but first I want F, FE, and 2nd F! Just like a little kid, I am, wanting it all.
Same here. I would be happy if they started at Prelude and worked all the way through.

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing Susan Calvin. I'd certainly love to see the Robot novels, especially Robots And Empire. But that might be pushing it a bit. :rommie:

Interesting.

I have yet to read the books (probably because they do come off talky) but I might be inclined to if the tentative series proves interesting.

With J. Nolan handling things, I guess the proposed Roland Emmerich involvement didn't pan out. (Not that I was looking forward to it, given the latest products from Mr. Emmerich).

Hey, Joel_Kirk

HIjol here, and I have enjoyed your thoughtful and spirited posts in other Threads lately. May I firmly suggest that you read at least the first two books in the Foundation Series. It will not take you long. (because, after that, I know you will want to read them all!)
I will be interested in your thoughts and opinions. :)

Will do...:techman:

Well, let's see. Foundation came out in 1950, yeah. That would be Muddy, Mahalia, Patty Page, Modern Jazz Quartet, LOTS of Broadway...what about in both of your neck's of the woods?

One of the things for me that is interesting about the Foundation series is that it was composed over such a long period of time and not in chronological order. Each of the works distinctly reflects its real world time in subtle ways. The "prequels" were late eighties/early nineties...I think reflecting this real world connection in the "style" of the music and perhaps in the style of dress/sets would be unique.

I confess that I never read past Foundation's Edge though.

Another thing that makes the series uniquely suited for television is that it could be done quite well without the need for a lot of special effects. It is driven by character and ideas more so than actual "space adventure". Its budget would be more on the lines of a period drama than a space opera.
