Jonah Hex movie thread:Casting,Pics,Rumors,Spoilers till Release

Megan Fox speaks, to MTV news, on her role in the movie and gives a few comments.
That movie is gonna be amazing. Its a post-civil war, apocalyptic type Western. The director Jimmy [Hayward] is a lunatic, and he might be a genius. From some of the things I’ve seen him shoot, it's a badass movie" says Fox.
She adds that her role's name has been changed several times - "It's Leila now. She is a prostitute. She's a good ol' working girl, and she's a love-interest to Jonah... of sorts. I mean, it's by no means a classic type of relationship."

Curious about her comment on how Hayward is shooting the film. I wonder in what context that means. Angles, filters, ratios just what does she mean by that comment?

Correction the above picture was from his appearance in Batman here is what he looked like in JLU.

As I relayed in a thread a little while ago, a Jonah Hex animated short will be the first in a series of DC animated shorts that'll appear on the DC animated DTV movies. The Jonah Hex short will be on an as yet unspecified DTV release in the first half of 2010. I'm sure the upcoming feature film was the impetus for Hex to be featured in the first short.

Hm. Don't know what to think about that. I know Fox is like the hot thing right now, but I think they should focus mor on Brolin as Hex, that's what got me interested.

Warners has moved the release date up from the 6th August, 2010 to the 18th June, 2010. They've also released a teaser poster, which you can see here.
Thanks for posting this Vulcan I was just about to do so.

Moving the release date up like this typically means the studio likes what they are seeing. Hope it turns out good!

A Q&A session with Brolin and Fox from San Diego Comic Con.

Brolin on Hex:
“He’s a hero to some, a villain to most but wherever he goes, they speak his name in whispers.”
I loved the fact that he was an antihero. I loved that it wasn’t an extremely successful comic book. There were three different manifestations of the comic book, but I loved the fact -- like the character himself -- it refuses to go away. There's a great survivalist element to this guy, and the comic book itself so I like the fact that he's an antihero, I like the fact that there's not another comic book character like him and that like I said in the panel, there's no model to base a film on him on, so we were really starting from scratch and got to create what we wanted to create with the blessing of those guys.

Can't wait for the first official trailer.

Seems some reshoots to boost the action quotient of the movie are being done.
Two ideas to this.
1-its in the summer and needs to compete after its move from an August release.
2-it sucks and needs the distraction like mediocore writing in Avatar needs flashy mushroom tripping affects to distract you.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the feature film adaptation of the DC comic series is about to undergo ten-days of reshoots. Warner’s have apparently asked for more ‘’action’’ (12 pages more, in fact) to be incorporated into the Summer release. Alone, that’s not necessarily a bad sign, but considering the other hiccups the production has experienced, one can’t help but assume the worst.
...
Jonah Hex” was originally due to open in August, but has now been moved to June –meaning it’ll open up against big blockbusters like. It’s possible that the studio is merely pumping up the action, and adding some new scenes, so that the film has half-a-chance of competing with the big boys on its new release date. At least that’s what I’m going to try and believe – having been excited about the flick since reading the script – as hard as it may be.
I pray this turns out OK.

I still want this movie to be good, or as good as a comic based western can be. This is going to be a guilty pleasure movie of mine so Shakespeare it doesn't have to be.

DC Direct will be releasing promotional busts of Jonah Hex and Leila to tie in with the movie's release:

Cue jokes about playing with Megan Fox's bust. :p

Yahoo Movies has the Jonah Hex trailer.

Has Malkovich ever made a good movie in the sci fi/fantasy/comic book realm? Mutant Chronicles, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Eragon, Transformers 3 and this.

Looks decent. Josh Brolin looks to be the saving grace of the movie, even though the aesthetic look of it reminds me of Wild Wild West, which is NOT a good thing.

Looks like I might be checking this out after all. Amazing what a good trailer will do to change one's mind about a film. I had no interest in "Jonah Hex" until I saw the trailer now I might actually go and check it out.

Didn't think this would be up till after Elm Street came out over the weekend, thanks for posting! :techman:

I think it looks pretty good. I see at times what you mean Jackson with the Wild Wild West parallels however, it seems(based on the trailer) to not be as over the top or satirical as WWW was. I'm hoping its a few steps in the right direction away from that. I could see the western Ghost Rider inhabiting this same type western world.

I've only started reading modern Jonah Hex at issue #41. The series is currently on #54 and nothing as been alluded to that there is anything supernatural about Hex. His wiki article doesn't mention it that I saw.

They also changed the events of his facial scarring.
Hex's facial injuries can be traced back to being sold into slavery by his father to the Apache for safe passage. Jonah eventually saved the chief from being killed by a mountain lion and was made an honorary member of the tribe. He was soon betrayed by the envious son of the chief while on a raid. He returned years later to challenge him in a sacred tomahawk battle but the chief's son sabotaged Jonah's tomahawk and Jonah used his knife in self defense when the tomahawk broke. The tribe saw this as breaking the rules of the sacred battle and sentenced Jonah to wear the mark of the demon by pressing a searing hot tomahawk to his face. They said his honorary relationship to the chief was the only thing that saved him from death.

Seems they are altering some of his later life married tales for the movie.
Though he traveled extensively throughout the American West, he also ended up in South America and China. At one point he quit bounty hunting, got married and had a son, and took up farming, though it didn't last.

I think Megan Fox had some good lines in that trailer. I'm much more eager to see it now.

I like the fact that it seems a bit darker and more serious, while still having some fun. The dialogue seems pretty witty. Josh Brolin seems to be having fun in the role.

Normally, this would be the bit where I'd sarcastically go 'Oh, you've seen Transformers 3, have you? So how do you know it's bad?'. But given how awful the first two were, I think you're making a fairly safe assumption.

This movie looks like it might have broken Malko's string of stinkers (though I quite liked HHGTTG). Fox in caught-acting-shocker (well, delivering her lines in a witty fashion anyway), while Brolin seems tailor-made (or cut ...) for the part. Lots of action, one-liners - I'd definitely go see it.

As someone said, it definitely seems a bit of a companion piece to Wild West era Ghost Rider. In fact, my only gripe is that Sam Elliott isn't in it ...

Wow, the trailer actually looks pretty good! (and the film, I hope)

But, man oh man... Megan Fox is an even worse actress than I suspected. Ouch. Couldn't they have found *anyone* else??? Josh Brolin might as well have acted against a green-screen, their scenes have zero chemistry.
