Actually, those of us who watch The Daily Show have already done our thinking. I watch it to get a good laugh.

Plenty of people in watch The Daily Show to get their thinking handed to them as plenty of others watch Fox for the same.

Studies consistently show that Daily Show viewers are better informed on issues than viewers of the traditional news networks. This is thought to be because Daily Show viewers skew younger, and are better educated, wealthier, and more net savvy than viewers of cable news.

And Jon Stewart says, the show wouldn't make a whole lot of sense if you hadn't already been well grounded in the topics of the day before tuning in.

The show can be best enjoyed with prior knowledge of the issues going in, but I don't think every viewer watching does so with such knowledge. They want to know what's the popular thought, what's cool to think, and they watch to find out and maybe then learn more. The show isn't an entire news network and I don't think the effect is nearly on the same scale. But I think it's there as well, and those of us who like the show shouldn't think our fellow fans all superior to those of its political opposites.
