Joker Origin Story Announced

This is not part of the DCEU right?

WB is literally a drunk just tripping all over the place spewing out bad idea and another. They are knee-jerking there way through the DCEU and now want to try and do something else on the side. How the fuck are casuals supposed to follow this shit.

When a 2017 Spider-Man movie features a completely different Spider-Man than the 2014 Spider-Man movie, I think the general audience won't be confusing the DCEU Joker with a Joker movie set in the early 1980s.

People don't seem to be confused by three Banners and two Rhodeys in less than a decade. Not to mention three Bruce Waynes over four movies. I doubt that a different Joker will cause people to wander aimlessly in the streets. (That's what smart phones are for. :techman:)

Do you not see it as damaging ? Not only will there be different current versions of the characters in movies and on TV, casual cinemagoers will find versions with different actors and contradictory plots (otherwise why is it non continuity ?) at the cinema.

No matter if the movies are good or not, the whole thing is jumbled - amateurish and nonsensical. There's a worrying level of incompetence on display here...

No.
If the movie's good people generally don't care about continuity.
Yeah, the non-nerds just want a enjoyable movie, the only people who care about continuity and what is or isn't connected is us nerds. I really think all they need to do to make it clear that this isn't part of the DCEU is to just give it either a totally different logo, or a subtitle like DC Elseworlds or something.

DiCaprio is an interesting choice. I also love anything that pisses off that weird egomaniac Jared Leto, so I'm hoping they make a whole trilogy of Joker movies that get all the critical renown that Mr. Condom Mailer didn't get for his role is Suicide Squad. :rommie:

DiCaprio, who's only a few years younger than Leto, to be in an origin story set in the '80s...

The age, and the gangster origin... It's basically going to be a remake of the 1989 Batman :D

This whole thing of the movie not being part of the greater Universe is just another sign of how the DCEU lacks control and proper overseers.

Scorcese probably was thinking "I want to do a Joker movie but I want it to be totally under my control and I want absolutely no connection to anything else in DC. This is my own private world and I refuse to work with anyone else or share with anyone else. I also refuse to use whoever you already chose for Joker."

And instead of hiring a talented director who's willing to play ball, they just decide "Yeah sure whatever."

By that logic, DC Comics should never have had Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns", Loeb & Sale's "Superman for All Seasons", Alex Ross' "Kingdom Come" and "Justice", Darwin Cooke's "The New Frontier", John Byrne's "Generations", Mark Millar's "Red Son", and all those other Elseworlds and non-canon graphic novels.

Comics are one thing, as they've had multiple continuities from the start.

Their movies, which they ARE trying to have connected, are another matter.

I don't think there's anything that says all of the movies have to be connected. They've got multiple unconnected TV universes, and it hasn't been an issue. Granted they haven't had the same character in two different ones as the same time, but I think as long as it's clear this isn't in the DCEU it won't be an issue.

Well, obviously, they're not trying to connect all their movies. Not to mention that there have been several different cinematic continuities for DC characters before.

But, this one is completely unconnected. Therefore, obviously, they're not trying to connect them all, not even "these days".

Exactly, the mere existence of this film shows that they're giving up on the idea of having the films be connected.

Probably the only reason it's not connected is because Scorcese refused to have it be connected to the rest of the DCEU for...reasons.
