I don’t know how true they were but there were rumours after Batman Begins that Penn was on Chris Nolan’s shortlist to play Joker for its sequel.

I used to think he might have made a good Wolverine.
He voiced the lead in Brother Bear; the role was recast in the sequel. He was also in 8MM but the character didn’t appear in the sequel.
I don't see where there is a problem with having comic book movies like Joker, and comic book movies like the MCU movie. It's a perfect reflection of the variety we get in the comics themselves. Hell, The Joker himself has been featured in the goofy old Silver Age comics, and The Dark Knight Returns.
Eh, he's more known for his bizarre antics off screen than on screen talent.
I just don't understand why you are campaigning so hard against this movie?
I think that's looking for a rational answer when it might be an emotional one.
Because it's succeeded without being MCU.
The MCU no longer succeeding would be a good thing, to my mind.
I'm against INO films.
But it wasn't that. It was very clearly set in Gotham and the DC Universe. Did you actually see the movie? Or are complaining to complain?
Yeah, but you have to watch the movie and understand what you're seeing, you know?
Meh. I have no issue with the Marvel movies. Gives me a reason to get a solid two-hour nap in the middle of the day, every few months.
Well, sort of the DC Universe... It certainly does deconstruct the hell out of Thomas Wayne, doesn't it?
DC is a vast multiverse. So I don't have an issue with this conflicting with anything else.
Sure. But Joker is the ultimate unreliable narrator. So there’s that.
Joker was never a guy named Arthur, there were never implications he was Thomas Wayne's illegitimate son, he never got his look from facepaint, he didn't care about some talk show host, there was never a "Clown" movement in Gotham about the Poor vs the Rich, Joker has never been shown to be 30 years older than Batman, etc.
And understand that it's an INO story.
So, a story can never be reimagined, mythos expanded upon, etc.? What a sad state of affairs then.

So, I wrote up several points analysing Arthur's character in the movie, at that point of the movie, and how what we knew about him suggested that he didn't kill her, and your response on how it was "obviously" suggested were police sirens. Because those are never used in movies for anything other than suggesting off-screen violence by the main character, certainly not as background noise to remind the audience that this is a bad neighbourhood.
Let's be perfectly honest, this was a matter of interpretation at the very best, meaning the viewer sees what he/she wants to see, and you saw what you wanted to see in order to even attempt to legitimize your criticism.
You're talking about the actor Marvel Studios tried and failed to get for Doctor Strange. I'm guessing you forgot about that.
