Johnny Depp as the Doctor in a movie?

No.

As much as I love Johnny Depp (I probably enjoy the Pirates trilogy more than most, especially in regards to the final entry), I don't want him playing The Doctor, and not just because he's not British.

Russell T. Davies is quoted as saying, "There will be brand new concepts and the film will be just as adventurous, scary and humorous as the television programme. But none of us working the film will forget what makes the character great and interesting and the long-time fans will not be disappointed because yes, the Daleks make an appearance."

Emphasis mine, that sounds like someone taking the mickey right there.

It's obviously bullshit.

However, it's believable bullshit which is kinda scary because someone may pick up on it and think it's a good idea.

On the one hand Depp would be a much better choice than about any other Hollywood A-Lister...on the other hand no no no No No NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!

I just can't see the Doctor working that well with a big budget on the big screen.

And can you imagine fandom trying to determine which incarnation of Who Depp was?

Perhaps Peter Cushing regenerated into him.

But no, just no. If there is to be another Doctor Who film ever then it should be one of the recent TV Doctors, whether it be Smith, Tennant, Eccleston or even McGann.

So he would call himself Dr Who then rather than the Doctor? ;)

I wasn't overly keen on the RTD/Tennant movie idea that was floating around but that would be preferable to this.

This idea is so wrong that I bet Hollywood is really thinking about it.
I suppose it could be worst they could be thinking of Sylvester Stallone with Paris Hilton.

I'd love to see McGann get a second shot.

Anyway... this story? Just.. no.

I don't know how he'll fit this in around Freddie Mercury, Ozzy Osbourne, Liberace, Artie Shaw, Bobby Darin, Charles Manson, Robert Burns, The Hulk and Howard Hughes.

Is there ever a movie role Depp isn't tipped for?

They would probably fix the cloak on the tardis so they could have a ford in it for product placement.

The only possible way I'd be interested with this is if they made it clear that the Depp Doctor (or whoever it ended up being) was set completely and totally outside the realm of the TV Doctors...no crossovers, no references...heck, make it clear that he's the "First Doctor" of this universe or something...even then...I'm still not at all sold on the idea...

Know what I think? It's RTD trading on his big success, and he'll string people (Hollywood types) along with Who, then divert them onto some other project. It's how these things work.

I think the part that gives it away is that the plot will have him curing diseases throughout time and space. Doctor Who, M.D.

I don't know how I missed that the first time. He's actually a doctor LOL.
