If there is a sequel I would like to see John Stewart have a role.
Stephen Colbert.
Nothing in the ads so far resembles Downey at all.
Given that Marvel Studios is producing the ultimate White Supremacist's wet-dream this summer, I think DC could have stood to put out a movie with a black protagonist. It's only fair.

Nothing specifically no, but, I think it's the womanizing, the big "Yeah, Right!" shout, and the grim-this is not just fun, but a serious job, glimpses in the trailer. And I don't think Reynolds makes any really interesting choices. I just have a feeling we'll have a smirking, joking Hal Jordan until he realizes this shit is for realz.
And yes, I know, that's like EVERY story, but... there's other ways of doing it, and after the success of Iron Man, I feel that choice will only walk in IM's shadow.
I think there are other ways of showing cocky besides smirking, joking...

I see what you're looking at, but the two characters don't strike me as very similar.
Stark is a brilliant and narcissistic man; he runs a business empire that's come largely from his own genius and he believes himself the master of a world that he's in complete control of. He's impulse-driven but he's not a fuck-up. The shock for him, in Iron Man, is being suddenly powerless and stripped of everything but his innate abilities.
Jordan comes across as a thrill-seeking young hot shot, very much like the Tom Cruise character in "Top Gun." He's a run-around, fuck-around kind of guy. He's not remarkably bright, he's not noticably ambitious, he's good at one thing and his employers tolerate him for that one thing.
Yeah, well as I said I don't see that in any of the footage they've shown. Ryan and Downey certainly aren't much alike as performers.
Fine. So I'll look forward to the Static Shock summer blockbuster. In the meantime, I'm black and I have absolutely no problem with Hal Jordan being the focus of the movie, given he's the most famous Green Lantern.

Which is fine. TBPH I'm a big Green Lantern fan; the movie could star a CG G'Nort or Jack Black as Kyle Rayner for I all care, I'll still shell out the $$ to see it and probably be disappointed if the current trailer is any indication.
There is a generation of kids out there who only know Jon Stewart as Green Lantern becuase of the Justice League animated series.
Besides, does Hal actually have a personality. I know it doesn't resemble Ryan Reynold's personality and he's incapable of playing any character other than Ryan Reynolds.
