John Barrowman, MBE

John Barrowman is interesting because he was technically born in Scotland and had a Scottish accent, but move to the US as a kid. He usually speaks in an American-like accent but once in a while I hear a bit of Scottish flair. Once I noticed it, I finally looked up where he was from.

There's a trick he does in a few interviews where he switches between the two with ease. Mid sentence he suddenly drifts across the atlantic. It's pretty cool.

I like the idea of technically being born in Scotland. Technically he was born in Scotland but spiritually he was somewhere else.

The five classes of award to the Order are, in descending order of seniority:

1. Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE)

2. Knight Commander or Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE or DBE)

3. Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE)

4. Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)

5. Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE)

One wonders why they never bothered to change the name given that the British Empire is long gone. Why not Order of the Commonwealth or Order of Great Britain?
