Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

yeah I never said he didn't make use of then when the need arose, just that he doesn't like them or carry them. Hell the cover for the novelisation of Earthshock showed the Doctor kneeling in a firing position with gun in hand..

Also can't remember the seen from Day Of the Daleks and never seen the Gunslingers (which I am grateful for :)

Maybe you know actually watch a story before you declare it abysmal.

Me, in 1991 (WI PBS was a little behind), after watching Trial of a Time Lord (the first Doctor Who I'd ever seen): "I'm not watching this crap! Where did the loud man in the loud jacket who pissed off all those people go?!"
Me, in 2017, after hearing the news of a new Doctor (having watched every episode since Time and the Rani): "I'm not watching this crap! Where did the loud man in the black jacket who pissed off all those people go?"

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The gunslinger is a very lowly regarded episode.

Contemporary viewers were unimpressed by the story; the BBC's Audience Research Report on the final episode noted several negative reactions, including: "has deteriorated from pure science-fiction into third-rate story telling", "The story was hackneyed, ridiculous and dull", "A weak and puerile plot", and "The script, even for a children's programme, was absolute rubbish"

I'm seriously worried.

I couldn't care less that the Doctor will be a woman. If you couldn't see the writing on the wall from the past three years, I don't know what show you've been watching.

I hope the actress can pull off the charm and likability of the Doctor. I'm not confident at all she can pull that off because I despised her character on Broadchurch by the end of series 2. I know she was acting as a mother who's son was murdered but she was just completely unlikable and I doubt that's what she was going for. The Doctor has done some messed up things and had some serious trauma in her/his past and still the character is charmismatic and wimsy.

Here's hoping she can pull it off.

A friend of mine just sent me the perfect rebuttal to the folks who think that a female Doctor is 'PC SJW crap'. He sent me screenshots of the parts of a letter written by Sydney Newman (major creator of the character/show, I gather) from Oct. 6, 1986 where he suggested that the Doctor become female:

"At a later stage, Dr Who would be metamorphosed into a woman. This requires some considerable thought - mainly because I want to avoid a flashy Hollywood "Wonder Woman" because this kind of hero(ine) has no flaws - and a character with no flaws is a bore. Given more time than I have now, I can create such a character."

This was part of a documentary called "The Last Chance Saloon" by Ed Stradling that's on a DVD that has the first four Sylvester McCoy episodes on it.

So...1986. 30 years in the making but it's finally happening.

on the subject of the transition tho, I thought this was kinda funny. It looks like Youtube is trying to help with the transition to the new doctor, so they assembled a few vids to watch in succession.. Starting with none other then the Colin Baker "I'm the doctor whether you like it or not" heh....(Sheldon cooper laugh) guaranteed not to start off with a symbolic middle finger.. yea.. funny..:guffaw:

everyone been saying how great she was in broadchurch(haven't seen any episodes)and she be a great doctor.i have seen this happen many times before a actor get role cause of their previous job and they fail in their current,im not saying whitaker will but it di happen with previous actors

And what? We shouldn't cast actors who were good in previous roles?

There has never been a bad actor cast as the Doctor. I see no reason to believe that'll ever change.

Without delving through 40 previous pages in this post I'll just say that I'll give her a chance. They've been hinting at a female Doctor for a few years now anyway. Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan did a great job being female leads on Voyager all those many years ago back in the mid 90s when it kind of was a big deal for a female to be in "charge" of a show. Especially on Star Trek which always had a male captain. Nowadays I don't get the hand wringing over casting a female in any lead role.

Speaking of Sheldon Cooper and his posse... I can just imagine what THEY will say when they broach the subject next season. :guffaw:

Not a good argument
1. He never took Doctor Who seriously. Remember he originally wanted a kids program
2. He famously thought the Daleks were a stupid idea
3. He had a bad relationship with the BBC in 1986. It's unknown if he was actually being serious with his suggestions.

That being said, he did chose Verity Lambert (after his first two choices said no)

I assume the guys will try to get Penny (Kaley Cuoco) to dress up as the 13th Doctor for an in-universe convention. Given her character's growth, she might even volunteer... It would be cool if the new Doctor turned Penny into a Doctor Who fan.
