Jodie Foster Comes Out

"Whatever her reasons, we are pleased that Jodie found the courage to be true to herself."

What a load of sanctimonious twaddle. Just because she wasn't prepared to expose her private life to the prurience of the media (of all sexual persuasions) doesn't mean she wasn't being honest. I admire her for telling them all to go fuck themselves and living her life on her own terms.

When James Randi came out, I giggled. He's so adorable. :adore: :D

Wasn't he in court a few years ago for liking young boys a bit too much?

No. You must be thinking of someone else.

Edit: Wait, after a quick search, there were accusations made by one of the people who failed James Randi's million dollar challenge, but that was summarily dismissed.

Well it's a surprise to me. But then again I don't pay much attention to movie stars outside of their films. The most recent movie I saw Jodie in was the french film "A Very Long Engagement".

Now James Randi is a surprise! Very much enjoy his work, and have three of his books...

I agree totally...i wonder who the media will help reach total happiness next.

Great for her, that still doesn't make Contact watchable.

Really? I love that movie.

Ditto.

Edited to add: I love this line from the James Randi interview.

And people often will say, “But you named your car Sophia, after Sophia Loren.” A little blue Miata, a beautiful little jobbie. And they said, “Well, you keep on talking about Sophia Loren.” And I say, “Yes. You see, I’m gay, but I’m not blind."

What? I don't believe it, I'll give $100,000 to the man who proves it isn't true.

Actually, it's $1,000,000 now. :D

And if anybody proves it, you have to change the rules to have required something else that wasn't included...

The million dollar challenge is 100% legitimate, unlike homeopathy, psychic powers, parapsychology, and other pseudo-scientific hand waving. No one has proved anything because it's all bull.

Back in the 80s there was a claim made for dowsing in Canada, (I'm going by memory from reports at the time here) where they did test by hiding test objects at set places along a path and letting student volunteers try to find them. The success rate wasn't high - something like 40% - but well above chance, and within the terms that had been agreed with Randi. He then decided that as the results were less than 100% it wasn't worth further study, and refused to pay up.

And, no, I don't believe in dowsing any more than he does - but that put me right off following his take on things.

Source? I ask because there are a lot of people who strongly dislike James Randi for repeatedly showing their "abilities" for what they are: hogwash. For example, when you're Sylvia Brown and you make up stuff for a living, you get uncomfortable when the genuine article comes along and shows you're not the grand exalted psychic you think you are. As for dowsing, it's the most common submission for the JREF Million dollar challenge. To date, all forms of dowsing have been shown to be false.
