Jobs??????

I'm a software engineer/researcher. My hours are flexible so long as I work 80 hours every two weeks, but most days I work from 10am-7pm. Yes, that's 9 hours, that way I can occasionally take a short day.

I'm a shrink. My office hours are technically 9-5, but with out-of-hours on-call shifts on a rota as well, for which work I get an extra percentage added to my regular salary. The on-calls aren't too onerous though (much as I like to bitch about them!): it involves being on the end of a phone to advise the junior staff if they run into a problem, and sometimes needing to go in (though I get paid another extra sum if that happens, due to the unique nature of that work).

I say "technically" 9-5, as my day is flexible to quite a large degree, so some days are pretty full, and others are more laidback. The actual work is a mix of seeing clients in a variety of settings (hospital inpatients, outpatient clinics & visits in the community), attending various clinical and non-clinical meetings and doing a whole heap of bureaucratic nonsense.

I plan on leaving this job in late 2011, to do a mix of independent practice and pursue other business and leisure interests. I just don't want the hassle of working for someone else, so self-employment within a portfolio career is the only real way forward for me. I'll miss some aspects of my current job, and for the first couple of years of working for myself I'll certainly miss the comfortable salary, but the long-term benefits should outweigh that.

I work in post-production for a media company that operates about a dozen cable television networks. I've worked unusual hours in previous positions there, but at the moment I'm working a fairly standard 9am-5pm shift. Except that I work Thursday - Monday (with Tuesday & Wednesday as my days off).

I haven't started yet, but my hours will be roughly 8 AM to 4 PM, and I'll be working as an assistant language teacher in two different elementary schools in Koshigaya, Japan. Looking forward to it, actually.

I was a trainee in a film-production-office. Working hours were from 10 AM to 6 PM, sometimes 7 PM.

Well, my training is finished and since I haven't found a proper job yet I'll work at a call centre for now. I will start in April, so I haven't gotten my schedule yet, but I know that there will be shift work.

I work 7AM-3PM, Monday through Friday.

I want this schedule.

Network Admin for a DI post-production house in Hollywood. Hours are 8:30 to 5:30. I would kill for the 7am to 3pm shift!

I just don't understand you people. 7am is the middle of the night. Why on Earth would you want to have to actually have to get to work by then? Presumably, even with a pretty modest commute, you'd have to get up by what, 6am? That's awful.

Even with my ostensible 9am start (which lets me get up a little after 8am), I still try to schedule things so I don't need to be in until a bit later. Getting up at 6am seems like a quick route to an early grave. :D

Applying/interviewing for a job tomorrow at a local country club. My friend brought it to my attention (he also works there, and since they're in dire need of people, a place for me is pretty much secured at this point), and since college is fast approaching, a job would be nice. It's as a locker room attendant, shining shoes, mopping floors, etc, and until school is over, I'm only gonna be doing weekends, probably 6 hours a day. After that, I may increase my hours, but I may also look for another job. Aside from the extrememly flexible hours, the tips are faboulous. Locker room attendants can earn around $50 in tips on a good day, and that's on top of minimum wage. Should suit my purposes for a while.

I can hear you. Early start is a killer for me. My brain doesn't start to work properly until 10-10.30am. Left to my own accord (as I am now), I happily trade off starting late in the morning with staying late in the evening. My evening workout doesn't start until 9pm, so it's great for me working until around 8pm.

That said, sometimes one cannot choose. When I was in college my classes started at 8am (yeah, you read that right), and I couldn't afford to skip them (calculus, and other fun stuff), and since I live outside of town I had to wake up at 6.30 every day. For 3 years. During college. I survived, but I didn't like it.

My favorite work schedule was when I was when I had to open the produce department at the grocery store. 6am-2pm. Yeah, you have to get up super early, but you get to enjoy so much of the day!

It's mostly a spring/summer thing. In the winter, I don't give a shit what my hours are. But during the summer, I like to be off early enough to enjoy the sunshine!

I'm a morning person. Yes, we do exist. The sun peeks in through my window and I'm ready to rock.

It mostly sucks in the summer when the sun comes up at 4AM. I don't like that. I don't want to be up at 4AM. Oh well.

I am doing 7am-5pm tomorrow have to be up at 5.45.
Its my last day at work for a well know UK chocolate maker.

So, it turns out that as far as Google knows, no one has actually made a chocolate sandworm. There goes a perfectly good joke....

The morning people upthread frighten me too much to directly respond to them. I'm going to huddle in a corner, rock gently back and forth and tell myself they don't really exist.... :D

We still have one? :D
Chocolate heaven since 1911.

Oh yeah, forgot about them. I guess we still have a few left. :)

PS. nick a box or two of Continental tomorrow, since it's your last day!

Now there's a company that takes care of its staff... :techman:
They also take quality very serious I have been told that the workers on the production line are encouraged to taste the chocolates to make sure they are OK:cool:
Knowing my luck i would get put on the Turkish delight line:(
