Joaquin Phoenix Shocks With Retirement Announcement

Don't worry, singers are always trying to break into acting. He'll come back and have a career like Elvis. :D

I can't honestly say that I'll miss his presence in movies; he annoyed the hell out of me in Gladiator (though much of that was probably John Logan's terrible dialogue), and while he played the part of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line rather well, he was an absolutely terrible singer, with none of the soul or emotion in his voice.

I haven't gotten around to We Own the Night yet.

Yahoo :wtf:

Phoenix is apparently giving up acting to pursue music, a passion of his since he learned to play guitar to play the role of Johnny Cash in 2005.
:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Big shock and a huge loss to Hollywood and the fans, no doubt about that. I would say one of the best actors never to win an Oscar and even if you don't like his movies, his acting has never been in question and I do hope one day he returns.
Oh, he'll be back.

The best of luck to him! I enjoy his work as an actor, and I hope he returns to the acting business. In the meantime, if he feels good trying to get into the music industry, I say more power to him. Just because one has lots of money and fame doesn't mean one is happy.

He was the best thing about Gladiator.

I think so, too. He made me despise him in that movie, and I love Joaquin Phoenix as an actor, so I think he did a very good job. :lol:

That's my reasoning too, I hated him in the film, but I was supposed to. So I put it down to good acting.

The only other thing I saw him in was Signs.
