Am I the only one that has started to avoid Trek commercials and new pics of film stills??? I feel like I have already seen so much that the movie is going to be predictable. Maybe I am the only one out there, but I have had enough spoilers thank you! It may be good advertising, but I am one Trek fan that wants to avoid any more spoilers!

Here, here!

There's more fun in being surprised. :)

The Internet marketing is definitely effective, especially on the hardcore set, but at least one can choose. Sooo important. :)

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

I'm trying to avoid spoilers as well, but I don'th think that the things that have been coming out have been too spoiler-filled, and even if they have been major spoilers "released", I don't think there has been enough context to make them stick out as obvious or make sense. Even the new clips we've been receiving haven't exactly been filled with vital parts of the movie.

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

I think if you combined all of the material that has been shown in the trailers and the stills and you don't include what has been repeated you probably wind up with a grand total of a minute and a half of images having nothing to do with each other and don't tell anything more about the film than any other trailers do about any film.

Relax.

Ya its kind of funny they have done such a good job keeping everything secret but now so close to the release date it seems the lid has been blown wide open and they really are not even trying at all anymore to keep secrets. Makes it hard to avoid spoilers!

Such as?

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

I already know one big spoiler and I still am excited. be strong!

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

Careful, this thread has a vague similarity to a thread from a few weeks ago. M'Sharak will probably want to close this one too, as if it was in any way bothering anyone or hampering the board

Back on topic, I still think all the stuff that's being released is carefuly done so that the same scenes are being shown (the skydiving, delta vega + a couple of others etc...). It's not like they're revealing new plot details.

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

i don't know. i read every spoiler i could get my hands on, and when i saw the movie, i was still surprised... not by everything, but by a lot of stuff. no matter how well you put the pieces together, there will still be big gaps, and that's for someone who was all over every spoiler.

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

So you're saying there's lots more to the movie then? In addition to what we've seen in trailers?

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

Personally, I still believe not enough has been said about the movie. We only have vague ideas of what the hell is going on. Too much about this movie is being kept a secret. I may have to avoid the movie in response to not knowing anything. Yeah, that's right, I said avoid the movie. Consider the implications.

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

I've got better things to do, like look forward to what will be a fantastic movie

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

Yeah, that's right, I said avoid the movie. Consider the implications.

The implication is that no one cares if you're going to miss the movie

That is one possible implication. Consider it.

I'm not sure what you mean, however I've seen the trailers and believe I know enough to know I really want to see this. Other than that, I hope to avoid further information until I get to the cinema.

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

If you really think about what we have seen we already do have spoilers. For instance look at my guess below:

The movie could be set up in such a way that Kirk has to stop his ship from destroying earth. We could see it on its way to earth just like V'Ger. But, we already know it is going to make it because we have seen a clip of the phaser near Starfleet Academy... This probably isn't going to happen, but shows how short clips from commercials can be used to figure out what is going to happen in the movie. If I am sitting in the theater and remember a clip from a trailer then it could potentially spoil the whole movie!

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

just knowing plot points isn't enough to put the movie together, and we don't even know all the plot points... i guess any movie is more than the sum of its parts, and there will still be stuff that you notice that hasn't been revealed at all in spoiler discussions.

Are you kidding? Why in God's name would a studio ever give anything more away than the vaguest idea of "what the hell is going on?" What would be the point in seeing the movie if you knew "what the hell is going on." That's part of the mystery that builds the anticipation for a flick. The reason to go the movie is because the film looks kick-ass and we have no idea what's going on other than a few incidental plot points (as urbandk put it) that may or not be directly connected to one another.

I also think it's funny as hell that you think that anyone gives a shit that you might "avoid the movie" as a protest response to not getting enough information from the trailers. :guffaw::techman:

Boo fucking hoo. :(

Of course not. We don't know 99% of the movie. All we have are some vague character backgrounds, something about the Kelvin being destroyed, something about Kirk having to take command of the Enterprise and something about some bad guy Romulan with a mutilated up ear and a big tattoo. Really, other than that, it's all speculation... which iswhat makes me more excited about it every day.

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

My god, a few months ago it was "give us something, ANYTHING, even just a screenshot!!" and now it's "Wah, they're showing us too much!"

I don't envy JJ and crew at all for having to deal with such a whiny, bipolar fanbase.

Re: JJ- Stop Giving Us Commercials with New Scenes & Releasing New Sti

Yeah i get what you're saying, and before i used to want to know loads about the movie, but it's like the more you know the more you don't want to know, in case you feel like you've lost the surprise element.

I've been trying carefully to avoid any spoilery things too. :)
