How can you lay the blame for how Scotty acts at Pegg's feet? Surely that would be the scriptwriters' issue? He's not Scotty. He doesn't look like Scotty and he doesn't act like Scotty.

...I've ever seen of the real Scotty. It's embarassing really, as is his dogged and stubborn defence of Abrams, Orci and all the other people currently crapping on REAL Star Trek.
I have loved Simon Pegg in 99% of everything he's ever done... but, with the possible exception of "Beyonce Uhura", his performances in JJ's faux "Star Trek" films are the ones that are the most far away from the original character.
He's not Scotty. He doesn't look like Scotty and he doesn't act like Scotty. He's somehow constructed a completely new character that seems to be based more on Spud from Trainspotting than any depictions I've ever seen of the real Scotty. It's embarassing really, as is his dogged and stubborn defence of Abrams, Orci and all the other people currently crapping on REAL Star Trek.
Shame on you, Mr. Pegg.
As someone who loves Jimmy Doohan's take on the character in TOS, it really does come down to the script. The actors can only read the lines given to them by the scriptwriter.
For me, I was disappointed with the character in Star Trek 2009 but was pleasantly surprised by how he was handled in Star Trek Into Darkness.
If they get the story right with no stupid coincidences or silly plot holes ST3 will be a winner
I think Pegg was far more recognizable as Scotty in the second film as opposed to the first. Hoping they get him into the captains chair in the third film.

Since those have been in abundance in all twelve of the Star Trek movies, I wouldn't hold my breath.![]()
The real Scotty is the blond, green shirted officer from the early Gold Key comics. You do know there is no REAL Scotty?![]()

The problem with his portrayal in ST09 was that he didn't even come into the film for the best part of an hour and a half and even then he only had time for a bit of comic relief, his part in STID was a lot more substantial. Overall I haven't got a problem with any of the new cast, in fact I would say they are the strongest part of the reboot movies.
