Finally saw the SW Trailer, and before this Thread gets shut quicker than a shitty rental buy on "Storage Wars", I just want to say that I am very excited to see the rest!

Hey, now that you mention it, why hasn't someone made a porno parody of the Star Wars franchise yet? They've hit all the other big movie franchises in recent years..

Well, I know that the attempt to make a porno parody of Star Wars was the plot of the Kevin Smith comedy Zack & Miri Make a Porno.

Come to think of it, since Star Wars was made in the 1970s, I wonder if Darth Vader got his breathing problems from giving too many "Deep Throat"s?

I was just gonna say that. My main complaint with Abrams' Star Trek movies was that he brought too much of a Star Wars sensibility to them. Now that he's working on the franchise that he clearly wanted to be doing from the start, I'm less worried. He's done other stuff that I liked, like Mission Impossible III & Super 8. (I'm more concerned that we'll never be able to fully extract that Star Wars contamination from future Star Trek films.)

As for the lens flares in Abrams' Star Trek movies, I mostly didn't notice them too much until people started pointing them out. Although there is one that does seem very out of place and really bugs me. It's in the 1st movie when Sarek goes to talk to Spock in the transporter room after Kirk has relieved Spock of his command. When Sarek first enters the room, the camera pushes in on Spock and there's this giant lens flare in the shot in what is supposed to be a quiet dramatic scene.

But I still find that less annoying than his shameless Wrath of Khan ripoffs in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Well, that was the writers, and Lindelof was specifically given "credit" by the other writers for providing a convincing argument to use Khan, but the director would have approval as "captain of the ship."

Not in the version of the movie I saw. They made a movie in the coffee shop they worked in after hours when it was closed. Sort of a riff on how Kevin Smith made Clerks.

Listen, if Jar Jar couldn't bring Star Wars to its knees ... Abrams surely won't, either. The State of the GFFA is strong. There's no need to make it "Great Again." It's still plenty fun to experience (either the older films, or the new TV/films).

Nobody really has a revulsion to lens flares per se, do they? It's just the perceived overuse of them? These days criticizing them seems to be more of a running gag.

I still find it hilariously ironic that, when Abrams took over Star Trek and the fans said he made it too much like Star Wars - a franchise that many felt he was better suited for - and now that he actually IS doing Star Wars, people are finding ways to be butthurt over that, too. Love it!
