JJ Abrams (Jokes): We Are Going Gorn!

On the Star Trek sequel:
We have some ideas about that, but it is in very early stages, so it is not something we can point to that villain from episode fill in the blank, and say "it’s that guy"
Then MTV’s Reporter Josh Horowitz suggested "it is a Gorn, isn’t it?", to which Abrams (joked)
I have to admit it, the movie is all about Gorns. We just thought it would be fun to Go Gorn!
He said with a grin, driving the joke home.

Someone can tell me what it means: Go Gorn, joke home.

GO GORN!!!

On a scale (get it??) of 1 to 10 Gorns rate 10 for excellence in visual punch-it-nicity!!

Let's see Uhura warming up that cold Gorn blood with the triangle to die for.. WILL SHE LAY GORN EGGS IN STXIII??

GO Gorn Abrams, GO GO GORN!!!

Hi ralph,

To "Go Gorn" is a humorous way of saying the movie would be focused around the Gorn from the original series (but he is joking). When people use "go" in this sense, it means that they are embracing something (ex: "Go green", which means to live an environmentally conscious lifestyle).

"drive the joke home" means that he goes a step beyond what is necessary for clarity in order to emphasize the joke.

Not even really a step beyond so much as it means "the rest of the way"; the punchline drives a joke home. It would be meant in the same sense as the last blow to finish pounding in a nail (drove the nail home) or the act of sliding the bolt on a door into the socket (shot the bolt home) so that the door is prevented from opening.

Thanks, M-- I was having a difficult time explaining that particular expression! The nail comparison makes it very clear.

Ah. If only this was true!
I think I could forgive J.J. for raping my childhood, if he gave me a whole lot of Gorn on the big screen.
Yes, I believe that would do it...

So I've been wondering, not much has been established about the Gorn canonically speaking. There is nothing saying the race isn't long-lived, but we know they've been around in the 23rd century. And since Abrams and his cohorts are saying they'd like to provide various links to the other Trek series, this could be a perfect link to TOS. Have a scene where Kirk and Spock enter an alien night club in search of XII's villain. While they're looking around, they pass by a Gorn. You know what would make this scene even better? Have the Gorn wearing a sombrero. The potential is awe-inspiringly awesome.
