Jim Kirk and the Prime Directive

Argh! "Archons": They never explain red hour in that ep. I like ambiguity, but it seems like spectacle for 1960s tv viewing's sake.

BUT - I just watched "Apple": good debate: Spock v. McCoy, then Kirk. But it's moot. They're saving the Enterprise, thus changing the society only as a side effect. Self-defense and survival trumps non-interference, right? TOS-era, of course.

We don't know what Kirk woulda done had the E not been in danger. (Well, we can probably guess, but you never know).

** Hey Christopher or some other expert out there, is "Apple" the record for red shirt deaths (4)? Last dude, who gets whomped on with the melon-club - they don't even seem to care about that poor guy.
