Jetfreak's Alternate Universe Excelsior...

Man, I'm getting torn up today. :)
Yes, I agree with others, this is a very nice ship on it's own merits. Earlier today I remembered your Venture Star, so in a way, you've already nailed a killer Nu-Universe Excelsior, IMO :). Jetfreak's idea is worth pursuing, in "evolving" the Excelsior into something that more relates to other ships around it.
I remember how jarring and weird the Excelsior seemed to me when ST III debuted.

I actually like that this neck at least tries to blend the JJprise with the neck of the Galaxy.

The only thing that's still bugging me is the saucer superstructure. But I'm hoping the current one is only a placeholder and the real one will hug the saucer's contours in the side view like the concept drawings do.

I think the biggest problem is that the neck shouldn't taper towards the top. Look at Jetfreak's 3/4 angle illustration – the neck appears to have a more-or-less vertical sidewall all the way up, as it meets the saucer closer to the outer edge than on the CG model.

I think it's a beautiful ship... but it actually reminds more of what an Abramsverse Galaxy class would look like.

Hey guys...

Alright, I decided to re-build parts of the neck, and I think it's working ALOT better this way. :)

And here's what Jetfreak's rough sketch of the front of this thing... one thing to notice, though, it that the secondary hull is a little too wide, compared with his top view... which is what I based my secondary hull on.

I think I'll go revisit the nacelles, now. :)

What do ya'll think?

EDIT:

Oh, forgot to add... yeah, that saucer is definitely just a placeholder. I just threw it on there to get a good idea of the full size of the ship. :)

Alright, guys... I redesigned the Warp Nacelles, totally. :) I went for more of an actual Excelsior Feel, along with the big cowlings and stuff up front...

What do ya'll think? Have I redeemed myself yet? :D

I still have to refine the whole thing, but that's what I've got after 2 hours. :)

More tomorrow....

Forgot one...

OH, wow. I really like the new one. Though I'd say have the bussards be blue, with them red it looks a little Cylon to me.

^

Well, to be fair, if he makes the engine lights blue, and keeps the bussards red, it'll look more Federation-y.

The Excelsior has seemed more blue-ish to me, and I don't know that it ever had red in the nacelles. These new nacelles are fantastic and way more in tune with the Excelsior we know (yet still different enough to be a part of the alternate universe), but I do wonder how they'd look with blue bussard collectors.

Until now I hate to admit that the model felt like a bit of a JJ-Prise kitbash, but those warp nacelles look great, and very distinctive. I'm really liking it so far, and this is from someone who HATES the original Excelsior design.
