So does she sign with real gold ink? Does any part of the proceeds go to charity? 
I've never paid for a Star Trek actors autograph yet, thank God.
I stopped going to Cons when Slanted Fedora when out of business.
They never allowed any of the actors they booked to charge for an autograph.
They felt it was unjust to the fans.
Their thinking was, if you meet these people on the street and asked them for an autograph, they wouldn't charge you would they? So if you paid to see them at a Con., why should you pay again for an autograph? The fact that you paid admittance should already be enough, right? Well, Amen!

They've been around long enough and do more cons that just Trek ones. they should be covering the over head of these actors so we don't have too.

Yeah, but they've been here since the beginning, they're allowed to charge big money. You say "Star Trek" to Joe Q. Public and Shat and Nimoy are the first names that come up. Jeri Ryan is way down the list, even to most hardcore fans.

I only paid $70 for Nimoy's autograph last year. And Mulgrew was $40 at DragonCon.
These prices are getting out of hand. I remember the days of $10 personalized autographs complete with handshakes and a bit of conversation. (And I'm not that old!

The closest I ever came to paying for an autograph was when David Gerrold was one of the Guests of Honor at one of the Con-Version conventions in Calgary. Those conventions don't ever invite actors; they have authors, artists, editors, scientists, and university professors as guests. Still, they have had some really Big Names as guests over the years, and that year was a doubly special one, with both David Gerrold and Frederik Pohl.
David Gerrold did ask for money for his autograph, but it was by donation to one of his charities. We could decide for ourselves how much to give, but the suggested minimum was $2 per book. I got two books signed, and put $5 in the jar. I also had the chance for a brief conversation with him.
As for Frederik Pohl... well, he was part of Original Fandom - many decades ago, when it was All Brand New. It was really special to have the chance to chat with him for a short while, and to see the expression on his face when he saw the book I wanted him to sign - his own autobiography!
Oh, and the monetary cost for this wonderful memory?
No more than what I'd already paid for admission to the convention itself.
The only convention I ever attended where a Star Trek actor was the guest was waaay back in the '70s, and the guest was George Takei. He charged absolutely ZERO dollars for his autograph, and was a wonderful guest.

I just don't understand why these actors (and other, non-Trek actors) charge so much for an autograph/photo. Sure, I can see the possibility that some people may intend to sell the autograph later, but that's still no reason to charge as much as - or more than - what the fan paid to get into the freakin' convention in the first place!
All I can say is,.....Aren't you regular folks glad your friends or you yourself don't charge each other just to get a cup of coffee and sit and talk awhile?
Makes me glad that I'm never going to meet people I'd have to pay to meet and get their picture with their name on it!

Timewalker, I had asked one of the actors that question as to why they charge for such things.(I can't recall which Trek actor is was, it was so many years ago.) They claimed it was re-emburstment money because they pay for copies of the photos from the photographer out of pocket. Now I don't know if that's true or not but that's the excuse I was given.

Me, either; I wouldn't even collect them for free probably.
However...
They're out of business; just think about that.
You might not want to pay that much, but enough people do that its a booming business. Just search on ebay someday and you'll see a huge market exists for autographs of all types. The actor may be sitting there for 90 minutes, getting writer's cramp to give someone a thrill, but if that someone "gets it for free, and turns around to sell it for 20-100 dollars" then its the actor who's made to feel like a chump.
We all pay for things if we want them badly enough. Anyone want a Honus Wagner card? Heck, that baby might just put your kid through college!
10 years ago I went to my first ST convention. My entrance ticket included a bunch of "free" autographs, and yes they are still proudly displayed on my wall. When I came home, a non-Star Trek friend asked me about the trip, and she was aghast that I DIDN'T pay an extra $50 for Shatner's autograph. She exclaimed SHE would have given me the money just to let me have the thrill of seeing him "up close" and personal.
She was right. I should have done it.
9 years later, when I had another opportunity to "meet" another Trek Diety, I did not hesitate. I waste a lot of money every year, but I still smile whenever I pass that photo of me and Leonard and see his smiling face.
It may not be "worth it' for everyone, but it was for me.

I have to say that I agree with the predominant sentiment as seems so far. From a fan perspective, it seems rather , well, ridiculous-and I mean no disrespect to those we love in the vast array of Trek stars-to pay for an autograph-not that I would not be willing to do so, for someone I was a big fan of.But, good grief, is it me, or is it becoming all one big profit mill?I know, Creation, etc aren't there to serve as a non-profit organization, but, come now...As far as reselling, that would NOT be MY intent. An autograph is a treasured thing, certainly to myself. I have one from a favorite, Jennifer Lien-who's finally doing at least one con, once again-who signed a sketch I did of her as her alter-ego Kes, and no way would I part with it.But, especially in this economy, fans already have to spend a lot of cash, just getting to a con like Vegas, or, anywhere by plane, and that's not always cheap, right? But, if you want to get ones from more than one or two, that gets expensive.

I don't collect Trek autographs or go to cons, but I do go to readings and book festivals and get books personally signed by authors. They're always books I love, first-edition hard cover. I get to chat a bit with an author I admire.
And one was so taken with my given name that he wrote me in as a character in a sequel. That was fun.
Some might consider that a worthless pastime, but they're not me.
To each his own.
I think it's pretty cool. Whatever the form, it's a lasting connection between you and the author/actor you so admire.
