I gotta tell you - and I can't explain this - that I'm much more excited by the sudden prospect of seeing a big part of this movie revolve around Spock as part of Pike's crew alongside characters like "Number One" than I am by the idea of seeing the early years of Kirk and Spock and the TOS Gang.
Agreed!

Well now they are saying she will be playing a pregnant Kirks mom opposite George Samuel Kirk reported by IESB. I wonder if the romulans will kill them since they are in the story. What would be the point to have a flashback seen of them.

And I still marvel at how ingenious, and just how damned elegant was the idea to make "The Cage" a glimpse into the past. From a purely practical standpoint, the decision to reuse "Cage" footage was mostly financial, but the fact that they decided to actually embrace continuity differences between "The Cage" and TOS by chalking it up to time depth was just brilliant. And by doing it this way, I think they created that "false sense of historicity" far better than they would have if they'd tried to make an "older" version of the Enterprise.
Absolutely.
As I watched "The Menagerie" last evening, though, I was struck - not for the first time - by how flimsy and implausible the envelope story about Spock kidnapping Pike is. It doesn't work on any level - logically, within the context of the rest of the TV series, or even in terms of pacing (you notice that it takes ten seconds for Spock to get Pike beamed down and hooked up with the Talosians after the briefing room doors shut behind him?). That the whole thing combined together is as good as it is, is remarkable; it could easily have been a mess.

The howls of laughter in the movie theater last night when the Keeper delivered that line were...well, we might as well have been in a midnight "Rocky Horror" screening.![]()
Plot twist - Maybe Number One is Kirks mother.General_Custer said:

No she shouldn't. Morgan Primus and Number One aren't the same people. They're just "played" by the same actress.Babaganoosh said:
If Number One gets a name, they'd better call her Morgan Primus.![]()

I noticed that too, you just have to assume that Kirk hung aroung the briefing room long enough for Spock to go directly to the transporter room. It would have been better to have the last scene be after Kirk changed and went to the bridge.

Indranee, it's a great presentation - bearing in mind that it's intended to promote the Remastered HD discs.
They show the entire "Menagerie."
First, though, there's a brief introductory piece by Roddenberry's son. Then there's a five or ten minute documentary about the whole "Remastering" project - how the film footage has been restored, how the effects were recreated and the new recording of the theme. Bits and pieces of that have been seen online before.
After the episodes, there's an advertisment for the upcoming release of the second season of the Remastered episodes which is worth watching - there are a couple of well-timed jokes involving headless/limbless balls of fuzz.
Oh, and the Regal pops corn fresh where you can see them do it. Seven bucks for a large tub.
It'd be funny if all of Pike's No. 1's just ended up being the girl he was dating at the time. Might explain Spock's frustration at continually being passed over for the XO job...Jackson_Roykirk said:
Maybe she is a different, later Number One -- one who has blonde hair.

Are you sure? I always thought Morgan was the same person as Number One. Morgan is, after all, immortal - and Scotty recognized her from his time on the Enterprise - so they easily *could* have been the same person. In fact, in at least one of the "Captain's Table" stories, they are the same.
