Jellyfish Computer Voice

draderman

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
WARNING: This post may be retarded

Im usually pretty good at picking out who does the voices in cartoons. When i heard the Jellyfish (Spock's ship) computer speak I was instantly sure who was behind the voice. Dr. Leah Brahms.

If you've read the countdown series, then you know that Spock's ship was built by Geordi. Susan Gibney, who played Dr. Brahms, was in an episode of lost last year, so... yeah. If so, nice touch.

Can anyone confirm?

I believe the computer voice was Majel Barrett Roddenberry the voice of the federation computers in all the modern series. It was after all a federation built (by Geordi) starship.

According to imdb all the Starfleet Computer voices were done by Majel Barrett Roddenberry and to be honest I didn't think it was anyone else.

Nope. It's not Majel. It's either Susan Gibney, or Kirstie Alley.
Defiantly not Majel.
:techman:

It didn't sound like Majel to me either. In fact, even though I knew she'd done the computer voice work for the film (and is credited as such), I didn't hear her anywhere in the movie.

It was her.

She was very ill remember.

That's the thing. The voice sounded like it was actually younger and healthy. I did'nt recognized Majel's voice at all...

I didn't see a dedication to her either. It would have been nice...

If so, draderman, that would be an excellent catch. :) Stick with it like this, and you should get out of cadet in no time.

I don't know. I've seen it about six times now, and I do know Majel's voice on the Enterprise when Chekhov is trying to access the computer. But, on the Jellyfish...sick or not...that does NOT sound like Majel. It sounds, as draderman said, like Dr. Leah Brahms voice...

It's post-credits, along with Gene's....

I feel dumb for missing that. Maybe my theater turned the lights on a bit early. Still, I would like it to be at the beginning, not the very, very end. Not everybody stays for the credits and this movie was supposed to be able to reach a new audience. It is sad that this audience may not know who she was.

hmmm, after reading through this thread there is apparently a dedication to Majel at the end of the credits. I stayed pretty long when the credits ran but I didn't stay for the entire credit roll. Probably should have put the dedication at the beginning of the credit roll. No?

I'm also pretty good with voices and I say it was Majel on the Enterprise, but not on the Kelvin, in the escape pod or on Spock Prime's ship.

I can believe it was Susan Gibney on Spock Prime's ship. I'll have to listen for that next time around.

Doesn't mean a lot, but IMDb states:
Majel Barrett, the wife of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has a role in this film as the voice of the Enterprise computer. She completed filming two weeks before her death on December 18 2008.

Yeah, thats the only time i heard it. I saw it again today and paid more attention to the details!

Havnt had a chance to read countdown yet, buts its a clever idea.

Majel is definately on the Enterprise whil heading to Wulcan. Didnt hear her anywhere else though.

Im planning on seeing it again this week sometime and thats my goal, the details and get as many as i can as i missed most while, ahem, actually watching the film.:)

Susan Gibney was not in the film. She is not in the credits nor is she in the uncredited listing on IMDB or Memory Alpha.

I definitely heard Majel's voice when Chekhov was talking to the computer, but I didn't hear it when Spock was in the Jellyfish. I'm not entirely sure who did the voice of the Jellyfish computer, but I can virtually guarantee you it was not Susan Gibney. Besides, the Geordi/Jellyfish connection was purely an invention of the Countdown comic -- even if the filmmakers were aware of it, I highly doubt they would take the opportunity to acknowledge it by using Gibney to voice the ship's computer.
