Jeans help needed!

Okay here's the thing, I tend to wear out my jeans pretty quickly, but 90% of the time it tends be in the crotch. They get worn and I sit down somewhere and they split. Call it down to one of the effects of a society with vehicles and buses not made for anyone over 5'10". In any case, naturally one pair split when I was getting in the car today with very litte space to move (the **********er who parks his POS Mercedes very closely to me, thus pinning in between that and the bigass SUV on the other side, doesn't exactly help).

So I now have just two whole pairs of jeans left, plus two with small holes already. And I'm getting pretty tired of having to buy new jeans a lot more often then I think I should have to! I mean I'm a student, I can barely afford food at the moment. Anyone got any advice? Should I buy higher quality jeans? Should I just live with it? Get tailored pants? Should I slam my door into the idiots crappy Mercedes?

Yes to slamming your door into the Mercedes.

Quit scratching your crotch so much. ;)

Seriously, see if you can find jeans with a long rise on them, should give you more room between the belt line and the bottom of the crotch, which may reduce tightness, friction and potential splitting.

I would've totally done the door thing already if I wasn't planning to buy a nicer car som day and may need to use the spot.

And you try scratching less if you had balls as big as mine.

I'll try and look for that though, not hoping to find much in this town though, mostly stock stuff around here ( I seriously buy out the biggest sizes in all the shops around here, it's not even funny that I barely manage to find stuff). Will probably have to look in Stockholm for a good shop.

What size do you wear? I wear 38X32 even though the waist is too large for me. I have to slap a belt on them, but man do I get great crotch room. And I need it.

Also, fit and style makes a big difference. I like to wear jeans with a loose, straight fit.

I wear a W48XL32, Even thought they are a bit big when I stand up, and I really would want some tighter ones for style, it's just not gonna happen with the troubles I have with jeans.

Buy better quality. Buy one size bigger. That is more slimming than a perfect fit. Jeans with breathing room look better on men anyway. Try Gap, Esprit, Zara... they all do decent quality. I'm not sure about the size though, in that case, try High and Mighty or your local equivalent, I've noticed High and Mighty do a lot of popular reliable brands.

If you can afford Diesel, go for that. Gas jeans are also of a very good cut and long-lasting. Jeans are one of those things where it really is true the more money you throw at them, the better they look, and the longer they last. They have the capacity to look either grotesque or really lovely, depending on how much you've chosen to part with. Look at it this way, instead of buying 4 or 5 jeans each couple of years, you buy once, and you make it a good buy:p

Tell us what you finally settled on! :D

I second the recommendation for High and Mighty - they do a very good range of clothes. I'm pretty certain they have an online store too, so check out shipping to Europe.

Jeans are a definite blind spot in my sartorial knowledge, so I can't offer specific advice. Shop around for a better fit is an obvious answer.

More fundamentally - are they wearing or just ripping? If it's wearing away that's a function of heavy wear, the odds are likely it's friction-related and that in turn is often size-related. Losing weight will diminish the friction caused by your thighs rubbing together all the time. Don't spend money on expensive jeans (well you could go to Evisu and get custom/bespoke jeans if you really wanted to and that would help the fit problem to some degree), wait until you lose some more weight (I seem to recall from a past thread that you're trying to at the moment) and then see if the problem persists.

Or, yes, buy better jeans.

This is really the only answer. I've never ripped a pair of jeans in my life and don't think I own a pair I COULD rip just by stretching a certain way while wearing them; even in a serious fight, this never happened. I burned the knees out of a pair skidding across a gym floor while playing impromptu dodgeball once, but that's it.

My suggestion on a budget is to buy "work jeans" intended for professionals that are either warrantied, have won some awards for holding together, or both. To save money, get them in two or three different shades of blue and wash frequently (as resources allow) while alternating, so it is not nearly as obvious how often their are being worn. I am not sure if they currently make jeans, but have been very pleased with the Red Kap products in the past.

Get a Utilikilt. Holds 20 bottles of beer in the pockets.

Dickies!

If you find the fabric section of a store ask for the iron on patching. Put the jeans inside out on the ironing board and patch with a jeans colored patch according to instructions.

If necessary, find the spot your obviously not so well put together jeans are splitting and put a patch on BEFORE you wear them.

Worth a try.

I'd say a combo, although as of late it seem to be more ripping then wearing. And yes I am trying to lose weight. I actually had lost a fair amount when I started school but then I of coruse got scik two weeks in and when I finally got healthy there just was no time. I just got started again on monday and I'm hoping to keep up my schedule this time. I really have reverted into a fat fucking whale once again.

So yes, most likely the best is to wait until I've lost weight. But I'm kinda adverse to it since it would then be added to a long list of other stuff that there's no use of doing until having lost weight... :(

Still thanks for all the advice thusfar everyone.
