I take it from this plan view of the Enterprise's saucer that you are deriving from FJ's supposition that there were flank phaser batteries on the saucer's topside, but no forward phasers there. How many phaser banks will you show on the saucer's underside?

Photon tubes will be corrected to the underside of the saucer, as will the forward banks. I considered doing the full double-up like the uprated version, but I'm thinking of keeping it series-accurate down there.

You know, I think it was McMaster who placed a nice production saucer atop an FJ secondary hull, and it looked nice. You going for a straighter bottomed secondary hull?

For Janyz, my plans for the secondary hulls are as follows:

11' Sinclair measurements - Constitution Class NCC-1700 series CA
AMT measurements - Kitty Hawk Class NCC-1015 series CC
FJ measurements (or small model) - Achernar Class NCC-1732 seriers CX
Phase II measurements - Tikopai Class NCC-1800 series CA

Right now I'm futzing with the underside of the primary hull, getting to look like I want while getting as many details shoved in as I can.

I would say keep the dish. MJ put it there for a reason and FJ followed in that philosophy. They didn't break that rule until Reliant came along, probably because the ILM/Image-G folks didn't realize it was there to push space debris out of the way to keep it from shredding the hull at high speeds. Of course, you could also argue that there was a persistent "navigational shield" that was always on (as mentioned in TNG several times), but I personally prefer the design as intended by its creator. My 2 cubits' worth, anyways.

I'd like to see Everhart and Casimiro included if doable for more mix and matching. Heck, maybe a unique take of your own.

In terms of destroyers, first show Masao idea, then relocate the dish to the sensor position, then remove entirely to show progression to dishless versions.

Later, justicars ideas about having dishes back to the underside of saucer hulls re-emerges, toward what we see in first contact, as if a history of dish delvelopment shows how evolution grows shortens, and re-grows limbs...

No dish! Please no dish! I am vehemently opposed to the hangy-down dish. Always looked like it was about to shear off to my eye.

And it should be noted that FJ labeled the dish as a "Main Sensor" in the tech manual, as if it operated on similar principles as a radar. (Though it might also be noted that he labeled it as "Main Sensor/Navigational Deflector" in the "Booklet of general Plans." I don't know which came first, but at least on the scout/destroyer of the TM it's just called a sensor.)

Anyway, I like the look of Masao's take on it with a smaller dish mounted into the dorsal. But the old-school hangy-dish is just goofy looking as a deflector.

This.

The Enterprise saucer's glowing lower dome is an important self-illumination component. It gives the ship a balance of sorts in the faux darkness of "space".

This is a nagging concern of mine with the Ajax project.

I actually like the FJ design with the sensor dish hanging down. And it's far enough from the ship that the EM radiation it would generate wouldn't pose a hazard to ship or crew.

I like Masao's mini-mount, but since I'm doing this with explicit permisions for these designs, I don't want to stray too far from them. The dish present or not is a bit like having an accessory. Adding a new hull-form seems to go too far from the original's work. It just won't be the Saladin anymore.

Yes, it is silly that some folks have developed an intense dislike to what they call "a dish on a stick", since that is essentially what the TOS Enterprise had. Just that the "stick" was oriented in a different direction.
