Jaws 40th anniversary

HarryCanyon1982

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
This year is the 40th birthday to one of the greatest horror and adventure films of all time, a timeless classic that has dazzled and scared audiences for 40 years since it's release.

I was a little too young for my parents to be interested in letting me see this first run. I've of course seen it since then, and numerous times, although never in the theater. This is a great film. :bolian:

You're ging to need a bigger thread.

Well someone had to say it didn't they?

But is Jaws really a horror film?

Classic film though.

This is a wonderful film--the perfect combination of monster movie and a suspense drama. I'd love to see this in the theater.

I was nine years old that summer, so I didn't get to see it first-run. But I do remember that everyone was talking about it, on TV, the radio, newspapers (remember those?). Even my parents went to the theater to see it, and this was long past the time in their lives when they wanted to leave the house to do anything fun.

It paved the way for other super-mega-giganto event movies like Star Wars a few years later.

It just shows how badass Roy Scheider could be: took care of a shark with only a gun for a weapon, and Richard Dreyfuss for bait.

What was so great about Chief Brody was that he was just a regular guy that rose to the occasion because he had to. He wasn't a superhero or larger than life in any way. Your dad or your uncle could have been Brody.

Roy Scheider was the perfect choice to play him. Pretty much everyone in the movie was well cast.

This is one of my Top 5 favorite movies of ALL TIME.

I love this movie. I see it all the time, and I never get sick of it.

And the onscreen dynamic between Scheider, Shaw and Dreyfus is phenomenal casting.

The soundtrack?

Ooof. I don't think anything needs to be said, except, "Smile, you sonuva..."

I remembered watching it on a St Louis TV station one summer afternoon when i was 4 29 years ago and i dug it, sure i thought it was scary but thrilling.

Jaws is superb, a true classic, the definition of a summer blockbuster, it had such an impact and is still amazing to re watch today. I watch this every now and then on Blu ray, the picture quality is fantastic the performances don't age. It is the number one film I'd love to see on the big screen.

Who else thinks it looks great on blu-ray with it's new HD restoration from the 35mm camera negative? you think it was filmed in 2011 with it's incredible new detailed restoration and awesome remix soundtrack with original mono included and that cool BD exclusive documentary.

I don't actually like that many of Spielberg's movies, but of the six or seven I do like, his early films Jaws and Duel are amongst his very best.
