The second film is underrated, though. It was about as good as a sequel to the original could be, and managed to bring back most of the cast (and John Williams!), too.

It's definitely a lesser film, though it's not outright bad like the others. It's decently made and entertaining, but one of those ones where I just sort of felt "That was nice, moving on..."

I'm a big fan of the second movie. It's certainly not as good at the original film, but I don't think it's too far off. It feels like a smaller film when compared to the first one and it doesn't stray into complete idiocy -- though helicopter attack sequence was taking it just a hair too far.

Never saw the fourth one, but I LOVED the third one as a kid. It was filmed at Sea World! It was a Jaws movie in a theme park! What could be better than that?

1) Jaws
2) Jaws II

And then to the question of this thread;

3) Jaws III
4) Jaws: The Revenge

III was very poor, but Revenge was absolutely terrible, even with Caine.

The main problem with Jaws 2 (besides the lack of Spielberg) is that they replaced Shaw and Dreyfuss with a pack of fairly generic teenagers . . . .

At least half the male teens were tall and black-haired, which contributed to some confusion. Those who weren't had some good moments, particularly Donna Wilkes, who played the token hysteric. Every gang in peril needs a Bill Paxton/Veronica Cartwright type. Lots of old war films seemed to follow this formula as well.

Let's face it, John William's music was a big plus. It made the ending for 2 at least as exciting as 1.

The only part of Jaws 2 where I think it went a little too far was the attack on the helicopter, which led to Jaws: The Revenge deciding to take it even further and have the shark take down a plane.

I love how they scarred the shark in the second movie by having half its face burned. Very, very cool.
