The term is "transgender person," not "Transgendered person."Lorca actually sounds like a female name to me, even though it's a last name. Perhaps he'll play a Transgendered person.

Here's a question I'm interested in given the casting choice: what will the relationship between the Captain and #1 be?
An easy out would be to mirror the supportive mentoring relationship between Picard and Kirk. I'd prefer to see some kind of friction or conflict that allows for interesting tension, drama, and character development. Maybe the Captain would like to get rid of #1 but she brings something invaluable to the table, so he grudgingly puts up with her.
I think the conflict between the first officer and the captain would be superfluous, it would only detract from the stories, assuming that the stories are going to be interesting science fiction.
Because somehow conflict isn't good for stories?
I think the almost complete lack of conflict between the Voyager crew and the Maquis was one of the great missed opportunities of that show.
A pity Spock did not file a harassment or insubordination chargeDepends on the story, but, personally, I find McCoys constant bitching about Spock's lack of emotions tiring. An isolated conflict is fine, but an ongoing one is just lazy writing that fills the gaps.

In voyager you have a very important female representation.A bad representation is having six series that are all predominantly male. Nobody expects all of them to be completely 50:50. But since the previous shows were so shitty about equal representation it's not asking too much for a 2017 show to be less stupid about it.
Equal representation would be cool, having it predominantly female is fine, too, considering all other Trek shows were heavily skewed in the other direction.
Having YET ANOTHER predominantly male cast would be lame.
I honestly don't understand why I have to explain this again and again. It's like so many people don't get representation in media.
In voyager you have a very important female representation.
Also in discovery you have a female protagonist
Frankly i love captain janeway she is one of my favorite characters. As I've pointed out before going the Rogue One way of casting a woman in the lead but then casting all or almost all other roles with the tired old "male by default" strategy isn't reasonable representation.
I think there's a study that shows that whenever women reach a representation of 20% in any field, men feel that there's now equal representation.

And I think voyager did a great job with female characters like Seven of Nine or B'Elanna
I think discovery is going to be a very good series. I wonder if at that time they wear TOS miniskirts? If we ignore the sexual objectification that was inherent even in Seven's ridiculous clothing I'd agree. Seven turned out to be a pretty good character.
