The one where I once aspired to rival that of Enterpriser?
(Not any more, mind you. I've come to my senses since then.)

Yes, the subtext was clearly in favor of Harry and Ballard.
I would never have thought of anything between Janeway and Ballard, frankly. It was just reading that tidbit in the wiki that made me goand then going back to that scene that made me go... 'huh, subtext but not'.
LOL There are loads vids all over YouTube of compilations of Janeway and Seven scenes.I can't say as I thought there was anything going on there when I watched it (which is odd because I notice lesbian subtext in everything, even when there is none) but maybe if I watched it again I might think so. Lately I've been thinking Janeway's smug looks could double up as suggestive looks (especially when Seven is nearby).
Actually, back in the day, there were three major shipper schools for Voyager:
Janeway/Chakotay - J/C
Janeway/Seven - J/7
Janeway/Paris - J/P
...
Janeway/Entire Senior Staff ()
I've always said Janeway's "looks" at Seven were subtext.
But, I'm also an ardent J/7er...![]()
But, it's Kathryn Janeway we're talking about here, so there were all kinds of shipper possibilities. Rule 34 and all...
This post summarizes well what a Mary Sue is. Mary Sues aren't "super special" - if a character actually is cute, smart, funny, charming, special and there are good reasons for people to like her, she's not a Mary Sues. Mary Sues are characters that are supposed to be "super special" and adored by everyone, but despite the writer's efforts to convince the audience, they come off as unworthy of all the admiration (for instance, the audience finds them bland, uninteresting, or annoying). Another characteristic is that they are wish-fulfillment characters for the writer. That's why they are so often found in fanfiction, but some canon main characters have also been accused of being a Mary Sue (Wesley Crusher, Lana Lang in Smallville, Bella in Twilight).Oh! And as for the Ballard = Mary Sue thing, I dunno. She was ridiculously cute, smart, funny, everyone liked her, etc. Mary Sues are always "super special;" that's why they get the praise they do in stories.
Well, how many other crewmembers died and came back from the dead?Plus she went on a "date" with the captain and got to air out her grievances, which wasn't something we ever really saw outside the senior staff.
I think Janeway does have a saucy way of looking at people, no wonder there are so many different shippers.
If you ever spend two minutes or more in a room with Janeway, you can expect the following to occur:
A) She will stare at you very intently.
B) She will invade your personal space.
C) She will place her hands all over you.
D) She will talk to you while her lips are about a micron away from your face.
There was something going on. I'm positive of it.
You left out my fav shipper... a few years ago I read a fan fic that shipped Janeway and that prehensile plant.
Remember the plant.
