Janeway - an inspiration to woman?

Yeah, the suits thought the "desired demographic" would be uncomfortable a the idea of a woman Janeway's age having regular sex with a member of the crew...
Women over 40 don't have sex, what a ridiculous concept. Everyone knows that once a woman turns 39 and a half things just seal up down there and even a crowbar and a bathtub of k-y jelly wouldn't be able to get things working again.

As an unrelated side-note, I chose to do applied mathematics in school rather than biology.

Edit: Surely this doesn't make me a "suit," Kimc? ;)

Depends on if you worked for UPN at the time.

But I do agree that Janeway was in many ways, a "my way or the highway" kind of person. I think to at least an extent, all the captains are - and I expect that's the way it is in real life, too.

I still don't see it. Sure, every captain has a certain amount of arrogance that comes with the position but I don't see her as being any more "my way or the highway" than Kirk or Picard.

Funny, I never had you pictured as a unibrow kind of guy. ;)

Then I'm in the clear...this time. ;)

I actually didn't mean to imply that she was any more dictatorial than those guys, either. Sorry if I was unclear. I just meant that I see where Vulcan Princess got that "my way or the highway" impression.

Picard was more diplomatic about it, but when he said "That's an order," it was an order, and Kirk wasn't even particularly diplomatic. I would say that they, particularly Picard, tended to consult their officers more often, perhaps (though this may be my imagination - I don't have a spreadsheet or anything ;) ), than did Janeway, but there was absolutely no question who had the final say on any of the Enterprises.

Thanks for that rather unpleasant image, GodBen. :p
 Applied mathematics isn't that unpleasant, we got to learn about cannonballs in low gravity environments without wind-resistance.

You know about my unibrow?! I should have known that you have cameras in my home after that incident with the open fly.

I see what you mean. However, I believe people tend to forget that Janeway did have two people she relied on for advice - Chakotay and her old friend Tuvok. In fact, the philosophical differences between the two and how Janeway would sometimes would need to choose was something that was dropped in later seasons when the show's focus shifted to Seven and the Doctor.

I missed that little trifecta in the later seasons. It very nicely echoed the TOS triumvirate (and could have doneso better, IMO) especially since I've always seen Janeway as a compromise between Kirk and Picard. Chak would of course be the McCoy fill-in, and Tuvok for Spock.

I think she was quite realistic in that respect - if you are the Captain, what you say goes or else - you listen to advisors and then you make the decision and that's that.

Janeway took being Captain very seriously (not that the others didn't either) and I'm sure she couldn't allow herself a romance because she was Captain. Apart from anything else, it would breed resentment in the crew.

No way bro., older women are way, way better in bed.

Folks,

Lets look at it this way. Just because Janeway wasn't in a relationship for her years on Voyager, doesn't mean she wasn't having sex. There are plenty of ways for release that don't require a partner. I can image those ways doubling by the 24th century and the introducion of other ideas from other alien cultures.

Now there's a thread you should start--Sex in the 24th Century. Of course, the Denobulans would just smile knowingly because they think humans could never come up with half the stuff they're comfortable with. But we're willing to learn--maybe you could get some Denobulans to post.

I don't know about that, some Starfleet Officers and Federation citizens do vacation on Riza.
Ain't no such word as "no", on that planet.;)

Try it for any extended length of time and you'll find out what's wrong with it. It will do in a pinch, but as a steady diet, it leaves something to be desired.

May I offer my services, my lady? I'm rather partial to green skin and pointy ears, but that's not mandatory.

LOL, thanks for the offer Zameaze, do you have dimples. I find that I am rather attracted to men with dimples, and I'd prefer them to be taller than I am (5'10") and I get along better with people that are around my age. I'm chronologically gifted you know. I was around for the first episode of the Original Series, and I was old enough to notice how sexy Spock was.

I was around for the first episode of the Original Series, also. I didn't notice how sexy Spock was, but that could be a good thing. I'm taller than you, but no dimples. I could poke myself in the chin with a stick if you think that might help.
