James T. Kirk - Corny Sex Music

^
And neither of you are up to my speed. Now knock it off. Be warned. I'm female, I'm sore and I'm cranky.

Topic, not poster. And try to be civil. It's not difficult to do, you're obliged to do it IRL all the time. Do it here too.

I'm glad Shaw received some very good rebuttals on this thread, so I don't have to do it. Today, acting that shows that the characters are actually thinking and feeling, and care about what's happening, is seen as "over the top". I think that's part of the reason that Next Gen, (all the way through season 7) is lauded as being so much superior. We generally don't feel things as much as in previous decades I think, and for the most part, we don't want to. Emotions can get uncomfortable. I think many people try for a state of non-stop "unarousal" and get so used to that, that human feeling becomes seen as melodrama.

Excellent, spot-on observation.

What was up with that funky music when Kirk started making moves on the all the broads he met, on and off his ship.

That was some serious corny music there.

I'm really confused, and this thread is a whole page long...

The "funky music" in question is from the fight scene of "Amok Time," and is used "when Kirk started making moves on the all the broads he met, on and off his ship"?

Um...where does that happen, exactly? I guess I need it spelled out for me.

And also, that section of music is one of my favorites from the original episodes...very appropriate to the tension of the fight scene. Not at all "70s porno-like" to me, whatever that means.

Even today, I do not get the impression of corny sex music when I watch TOS. Granted with the low budget that TOS had for original music production, most of it had to be basic and recycled to a degree. It was indeed effective for portaying the mood of the scene.
