James Darren honored

Great news.

Adding him to DS9 was a good decision.

Very classy element of the show. Fine singer too.

The topper — especially for this audience — was Ira recounting his newly widowed mother being so excited when she heard her early-day heartthrob was going to be on her son's show — then getting to meet and encourage him on a renewed signing career, shortly before passing away. Noting that Jimmy co-dedicated one of his new CDs to "Lillian Behr," her son concluded: "How do you not love a guy like that?"

What a class act

I had no idea they had gone after Sinatra originally.

Probably for the best that he didn't go for it. Something tells me he'd have been a dick on set.

Wow, just think if Vic Fontaine was played by Robert Goulet. That would have just been a bit bizarre.

I don't suppose James Darren is related in any way to Bobby Darin? I realize the last names are spelled differently, but my dad suggested they might be related, and Darren/Darin is not a typical last name.

According to imdb.com , his real name was James William Ercolani .
Spotted by talent agent Joyce Selznick of Columbia Pictures while waiting for an elevator, he was signed in 1956 and given the name "James Darren" by the studio in honour of the Kaiser-Darrin sports car.
