I actually agree with Horowitz, I've been a big fan of Elba since Ultraviolet, I think the guy's awesome, but I don't see him as Bond. Adrian Lester, yup I can see that, and I could also see David Oyelowo (who's doing the audio for Trigger Mortis) in the role. Hell after Brosnan left I wanted Colin Salmon to be given a go, so I have no issue with a black 007 I assure you, its just whether the actor is right for the role. I mean I like Jason Statham, doesn't mean I'd like him to be Bond.
The other issue with Elba (and an issue which affects several other contenders such as Lester, or Richard Armitage) is age. Even if Spectre is DC's last film by the time Bond 26 rolls around Elba will be around the same age Rog was when he started, if Craig does another Bond, then Elba would end up being the oldest Bond actor
at the start.
Now maybe this isn't an issue, all these guys in their forties now probably look younger than Moore did in Live and Let Die, hell it's amazing to consider Connery was only 31 in Doctor No and Lazenby only 29 as both look much older, but the producers have to consider longevity, if they got someone like Elba (or Armitage) are they really expecting another ten year run which will see that person comparable in age to Moore in Octopussy by the end of their tenure?
Its worth adding that I initially didn't think Daniel Craig was right for the part, so its possible I'm talking out my backside with regard to Elba, and if he's cast he'll have my support and I'll reserved judgement till I see him in the role
But sod the future Daniel Craig is still Bond and that is an awesome poster!
