"James Bond 23" officially slated for 2012!

I certainly hope so. The Japanese IMAX showing of The Dark Knight Rises I went to showed the first Skyfall trailer instead.

I think Diamonds Are Forever qualifies as camp even more than Moonraker does.
agreed.

I agree--and to be frank, I find it gets a little dull around midway. It doesn't have quite the charm of the other Connery films....

There will be a new trailer tomorrow and there's a preview of it at this link. Yes, previews of trailers, that's what it's come to.

Indeed. And further--before the wide release of the IMAX trailer....

I love Connery and I find Diamonds Are Forever nearly unwatchable. It's the leisurely pace that kills the movie for me. I know there are people who love it for that reason, but I just cant' get into it.

I was under the impression that this is a totally new trailer and that the IMAX trailer would not be released online (which is why we've not had it online and had to rely on cam shots thus far) but who knows. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Who are you kidding? You know you would love it.

Actually I don't think I would. Big name directors these days seem to have forgotten the art of a well paced, well edited, reasonably lengthed film, particularly when its an action film. I think 2 hours is a good length for a Bond film, and certainly think OHMSS and CR should be the upper end of the scale. QoS was a trifle too short, but for all its faults it rattles along at a great pace and doesn't outstay its welcome.

It occurs to me, though, that at this point there may be a good chance that Nolan wouldn't even want to do a James Bond film. He's just spent eight years working on someone else's characters, albeit with The Prestige and Inception in between them; I wouldn't be surprised if, now that he can essentially write his own ticket and do whatever kind of movie he wants, Nolan were to decide that he wants to focus on original films and original characters rather than work on another franchise.

Maybe, though he's made it clear he is a huge Bond fan. At the end of the day he's still relatively young, and unlike Batman the liklihood is that he'd only work on the one Bond film. It might be several years/films down the line though giving him the opportunity to make his own films in between.

i love Jill St John in DAF, but yeah its my least favorite of the Connery films.

While I liked the actress, the character of Tiffany Case is incoherent. I loved her in her first few scenes, but afterwards she's one of my least favorite Bond Girls. She turns from a kick ass professional who almost unmasked Bond if it weren't for Q's false fingerprints into a stupid damsel in distress who gets herself kidnapped, gets caught swapping the tapes and can't even use a machine gun.

^ It certainly does.

Is anyone else reminded, when Bond straightens his sleeves and adjusts his cufflinks, of the scene in Goldeneye where he adjusts his tie as he drives the tank? I always loved that bit of detail, but if anything, the new scene is arguably more effective, given the entrance Bond has just made. And also given that Craig is much more rugged than Brosnan, who's the sort of smoothie you'd expect to fiddle with his tie anyway!

There's actually two new trailers, one domestic, one international.

That looks seriously badass. :techman:

I don't know if the trailers give away too much, but I do get the sense this isn't a story about a direct threat to the world but more specifically a threat to MI6 and in extent M. Could be interesting.

Xavier Bardem looks nasty. It's always better when you've got a good villian.

Man that looks good! And a PPK only 007 can fire? Pah, Dalton had a gun disguised as a camera that only he could fire

Just thinking over what this trailer appears to show. There had been some talk a while ago (discussed in the thread) that Bond had retired at the start of this movie and some of us thought it a bit silly that, having only started his 00 career in Casino, he had already retired (shades of The Dark Knight Rises?). But instead, it appears that he was presumed dead. Incidentally, the scene with M reading his obituary seems to be an homage to You Only Live Twice, the book of which ends with his obit.

I'm guessing that the 'take the shot' scene will be in the pre-credits sequence and, with other 00 agents having been assassinated, Bond will suddenly return from the dead. He'll have to be assessed (the psych scenes we've seen in other trailers) and a reluctant M and Ralph Fiennnes will have no choice and no alternative to help them with this threat.
