"James Bond 23" officially slated for 2012!

Well, you know what Far Leftists would say to that: "OH, but those dictators weren't really Leftists--they used those ideas to gain power and then betrayed those ideals!"

Of course...the entire point of Mr. Greene's speech is that corruption and power-lust occurs on both sides of the aisle--and what QUANTUM does is simply take advantage of that fact.

I just think it's silly to pretend that an organization that's engaging in extreme rightist behavior by literally trying to overthrow a nation's legitimately-elected government in order to install a military dictator who will let them profit by privatizing and exploiting a public resource in the exact same manner that large corporations have in the past (e.g., corporate backers of the coup in Chile, the Bolivian water crisis in 2000) -- is not therefore by definition a rightist organization.

And again--they deal "with the Left and the Right--with dictators and liberators." Just whomever serves their interests at the time. Remember his threat that if the general turned his back on the organization, he'd face a rebellion of his own.

It's irrational, to be blunt, to assume that their methods are therefore limited only to use by "rightist organizations".

As Starkers just pointed out, Leftist dictators are guilty of the same sort of methods.

Whom you deal with is not the same as how you yourself behave.

If the next movie features Quantum announcing that it's going to use a puppet government in Venezuela to redistribute the wealth from the top 1% to the bottom 99% while taking a huge cut of its own in the process, I'll buy the supposed apartisan nature of Quantum. Until then, they look to me like the classic definition of a rightist organization.

No, there was no threat he'd face a "rebellion." The threat was that Quantum wouldn't back his coup and he'd be shot in bed one night.

^A rebellion from his own ranks--as Green explicitly stated. "You'll wake up with your balls in your mouth and your successor standing over you," or words to that effect.

And again--Green's entire point of his speech was to tell the General, "Frankly, I don't give a crap about your political motivations. I could deal with the other side just as easily, if it suited our purposes at the time. We're not dealing with you people because we agree with your politics. We're dealing with you because you were willing to work with us."

It's not about politics--it's about power. Or are you somehow of the mindset that such motivations are only within the psyche of the Right--that such methods are solely within the war chest of the Right--that such actions must be characterized as "extreme rightist", by their very nature?

To be blunt, that is a mindset I find "silly".

First picture of "Q"

And as I said on Facebook: Is *that* the look they're going for? Oh, fuck... See, having the young tech-geek is a great idea. Having him outright look like a middle-aged sitcom producer's idea of a tech-geek, requires Picard facepalms...

They are going for the hipster crowd... I think the look is fine and I love the choice of someone who can grow older with the part..

But...the choice of attire? Really? Didn't Major Boothroyd at least have a good suit? Give him something akin to what Bond's wearing in that picture--then I'll accept the hair...and maybe the giant glasses.

(But--second glance--perhaps those are goggles for the Q-Branch lab, and not stereotypical mega-specs? If that's the case, I'll accept it.)

So, first impressions--I find myself agreeing with Lonemagie. However...I also feel the need to reserve judgement. Let's see if he transecends the...unfortunate attire.

That's because the thread starter is not able to edit the title (editing turns off 24 hours after the initial post and I think the time limit for a thread title is even less). Only a moderator can edit the title.
