"James Bond 23" officially slated for 2012!

I wonder when this IMAX fad will go away. It gives me headaches, it's unwatchable in the front row, and it adds nothing to the story.
Well I agree when a film has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen and you take a pan and scan of that to fit into IMAX's aspect ratio: 1.44:1
it is like taking any widescreen movie and panning and scanning it to fit it into traditional analog TVs for a broadcast 20 years ago. You are losing 30% of the image as well as the grain is increased.

From what I read in a magazine it was only Transformers 2 that had 8k resolution renders for some scenes shot on 70mm film where it looked great.

Then don't go...or don't sit in the front row. I personally love it, especially when certain scenes are shot with IMAX cameras.

You shouldn't be sitting in the front row for a 35mm projection, either. As for adding nothing to the story, I'd say the skyscraper scenes in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol prove that wrong. The sheer scope of the IMAX frame in that sequence resulted in one of the tensest action scenes I've seen all year.

Of course, some years ago you would be complaining about 70mm projections instead of IMAX, and making the same point. Obviously Lawrence of Arabia gained nothing from the added scope, either.

This gives me another chance to grumble that there isn't an IMAX cinema in the whole island of Ireland and there hasn't been one for several years now. The one in Belfast closed in 2007, without ever having shown a proper feature film (it only ever showed documentaries).

The old Aston Martin DB5 will be driven by Craig in this movie, fully equiped as it was in Goldfinger.

Double-O heaven ... classy DB5 seen on set of new James Bond movie Skyfall near Glencoe

Daniel Craig drives the legendary silver sports car, armed with machine guns, in a chase scene in new film Skyfall.

It still bears the same BMT 216A number plate it sported on its 1964 bow in Goldfinger, when Sean Connery played 007.
The car also appeared in Thunderball, Casino Royale, Tomorrow Never Dies and GoldenEye — but this will be the first time since its debut it has been armed and used by Bond in a chase.

The DB5, complete with a "weapons dashboard", was seen during filming in Glencoe, Scotland.

Also the rumor of Ralph Fiennes playing M is most likely correct. Judy Dench who plays M is going blind as reported recently and the producers have probably been aware for a long time and it's logical that she won't be back. The plot revolves around her so I predict she will be killed and Fiennes will step in as her successor, the new M in the movie.

A DB5...armed with machineguns? :D

Well--as has been discussed, It's doubtful they'd go so "out of this world" in the Craig era.

The gadgets we've seen Bond use in Casino and QoS are more "down-to-earth" and realistic.

Oil slick, maybe. I'm hoping for an oil slick. And bulletproof glass is a must.

I wouldn't mind seeing a set of 30cal Browning machine guns pop out behind the turn signals of a 48 year old car and blast away at a modern vehicle.

Great username by the way.

I think that's stretching things a bit.

Bardem's character mixing in with the real police

When I first saw those pics on the MI6 website I didn't even recognise Bardem first off!

It may just be the nature of the filming, but anyone else getting the vibe that this film will be set far more in the UK than any other Bond film?

Perhaps taking inspiration from the Moonraker novel, the only Bond adventure to take place entirely in Kent :)
