"James Bond 23" officially slated for 2012!

^It should prove most interesting. I don't suppose the character will be revealed as having the rank of Vice Admiral...with the name of Sir Miles Messervy, perhaps?
 
Eh...how many films have had this rumor attached to it? And how many times has this movie had that rumor attached to it?

Personally speaking, I've always liked it when the change of recurring characters happens "between" movies.
 
I'm surprised no ones picked up on this yet:

The first James Bond film in four years. Daniel Craig returns. Sam Mendes directs. We get Javier Bardem AND Ralph Fiennes as bad guys. And we get to see the characters of Miss Moneypenny and Q come into this iteration of the franchise. Yeah, I'm excited for SKYFALL. The story - about a downed intel satellite and the scrambling of various government agencies to retrieve it - seems genuinely different than the plots we're used to. But Craig has brought to Bond the grit and grim that i've wanted ever since I saw my first Bond film (FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, if you're curious). I think Craig is the best version of the character yet - and yes, I've seen, and love, the Connery films - and I'd bet that Ian Fleming didn't figure on how this character has stayd so cool throughout the years. SKYFALL may just be what Bond fans have been waiting for.

^ And the Ralph Fiennes as a bad guy would seem to contradict the other rumour of the day. Of course, that rumour could be the wrong one.

Who's to say someone else is not playing her?

Besides, that story is just a mishmash of everything we already know. With the exception of the piece I bolded. Seems the author is under the impression that everyone knows the plot summary, which is why he just throws it out there like it's nothing.

Of course there is nothing to say that plot summary is true, but it sounds pretty neat if it is true.
 
hmm, well possibly was time for Arnold to move on, much as I've enjoyed his scores. I hope the 007 riff plays more of a part in SkyFall's soundtrack.
 
I was looking forward to Arnold returning, and while it would be interesting to see someone else take the reigns...Newman wouldn't be my first choice. It makes sense though given his connection with Mendes. I also know about all of his Academy award nominations (I think he has like or something like that). Just never really been a fan of his work. Maybe "SkyFall" will change my mind.
 
Apparently Arnold is busy being the musical director of the Olympics this year, giving him a limited availability.
 
Shame. David Arnold, more than any other composer, truly captured the essence of John Barry's classic style. All the others seemed to feel the need to abandon the tradition in favor the style of music "popular" for the times. (And Monty Norman barely had a score for Dr. No!)

Barry was timeless. And Arnold retained that quality, for the most part: the brass, the stings, the style.
 
@Broc....ahhh that'd explain why we've not had an announcement or follow up to the report he might be returning two December's ago. Good for David.
 
Thomas Newman is no Eric Sierra, so I'm not too worried. Still, it's too bad that Arnold couldn't return. Even his less interesting scores (The World is Not Enough) have been modestly listenable -- and his best scores have been terrific (Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale).
 
Here is a crazy thought about Ralph Fiennes character. Consider he is playing some sort of "government agent" and the movie has something to do with "secrets from M's past", what if he plays M's son (or other relative) who is, presumably, somehow involved with the trouble that occurs in the film?

I could see why they would want to keep the role quiet for now considering that is quite the addition to Bond lore (for lack of a better word). I'm probably wrong, but I'm going to run with that theory for now. Hell, it is a lot more interesting than the "Fiennes is the new M" rumor.
