Jake Sisko...

I can't remember ever seeing any talk about this ever...

Since Ben Sisko is part Prophet (Wormhole alien, whatever) then shouldn't Jake be as well?

Throughout the series people other than the Captain recieved visions; like for example in the finale when Cassidy Yates was brought to the celestial temple, and Dukat and Kai Winn getting visionos from the Pagh Wraiths, as well as the many times Prophets took over characters (Occupying Dukat or Keiko O'Brien, etc.)

But besides those instances, to talk to the prophets you would need to use an orb.

Ben is unique because he's constantly having visions. The connection is obvious, being that he's part Prophet... Could Jake have the same visions?

Just speculating with my nerdy Trekkie hat on. Heh.

The Prophets give visions to whoever the hell they please for whatever reason they feel like. The Sisko is their emissary, so he gets the bulk mail.

While Sisko is part Prophet by design... Jake's birth doesn't exactly seem to be our ellusive wormhole alien friends doing. So I figure, though the shiny lightbulb cryptic DNA flows through his veins, it doesn't count for much. He got to be a pagh wraith, though, but that was payback by the wraiths towards the Sisko, rather than any innate quality he posesses.

So: Prophet-DNA does not guarantee they'll mess with your head... unless they really wanted you to have it, in which case you're suckered.

The Prophets made sure that Ben Sisko was born. To do that, one of them, Sarah, inhabited a human female and married Joseph. Ben was born from two human parents. And after a short time, Sarah left the human hostess, and the human hostess left Joseph.

He does not have "Prophet DNA".

So, that means there isn't any way Jake is 1/4 Prophet.

I never quite understood why the Prophets had to engineer Ben Sisko's birth in the first place. They didn't seem to know him at all until they encountered him in The Emissary, so it seems to me that Sisko had to have been conceived and birthed naturally at least at one point. Is my problem that I'm thinking of time as linear? :p

Yes! :p

Though I like to take it one step further. Since The Sisko became a Prophet at the end of the series, it is entirely posssible that he is really Sarah, and that he inhabited his mother's body on Earth in order to create himself.

Not necessarily, you can have Sisko only existing because of the prophets' work. The Prophets obviously needed an emissary to finish their war with the pah-wraiths so they created Sisko. So they sent out the a prophet to go and arrange it. That prophet body stole Sarah and Sisko was born.

To make it work they would need to keep the pah-wraiths from finding out about Sisko. Therefore the Sarah prophet would have had to act without communicating with the others as the only way to keep a secret is to be the only one to know it. If the pah-wraiths found out about Sisko they would have spent a lot of time trying to kill him as Sisko grew up and for whatever reason the Prophets couldn't/wouldn't protect him.

Sarah then exiled herself to Tyree to hide from the pah-wraiths, either because she knew she would be needed to reopen the wormhole or just as a precaution and never returns to the wormhole or talks to any other prophets.

So in 2369 when Sisko enters the wormhole the prophets have no idea who he is, despite the fact he only exists because of them. The end.

Jake was packing like a Prophet though. Did anyone else ever notice this? Now I feel like a creepy old man. Maybe the pants were just tight.

When the Season 7 baseball episode came around, there was a round of, "Oh dear lord!" :o about Jake's package.

I should clarify that it was among another group, not this one. (Since this one has a lot more straight guys than the other DS9 places I frequent, there was not so much gaping at Jake's... attributes.)

Which group was this mrs260? Still an active board?

I remember noticing it in the baseball episode as well, but it was kind of noticeable in almost any outfit he was wearing (especially the bajoran pant suits). Jake truly was half-Prophet! Ok I'll stop now..

Ben Sisko did mention towards the end that he was part (one-fourth) Prophet. That would make Jake Sisko and Ben's unborn child one-eighth Prophet.

I can't remember the episode but it was during that final story arc. I think the first episode of it. Ben and Kassidy talk about him being "part-God."

yeah, it's a head scratcher. If they've ever known sisko then they've always known sisko since they're not linear. I was always partial to the idea that sisko is the one that arranges his own birth.

My theory on the prophets were that they exist in a finite section of time. So if you imagine time and space and an ever expanding sphere with endlessly branching possibilities and alternate timelines, the prophets exist in their own sphere inside the sphere. So in the alternate universes timeline that cuts through the center of the sphere, they may exist for a millennia, where as towards the edge of the sphere they may only exist in a given timeline for seconds.

Some time within their sphere they first came into contact with sisko for the first time, which became their first taste of our existance. (Like when sisko ends up in the white zone during visitor.) Curious they arrange a face to face meeting with sisko which is what we see in the pilot, which is why they don't know jack about linear creatures. Kind of doesn't really fit though since they're not linear, but maybe they have their own sort of linearity. Like maybe their universe exists as an expression of the distance from the center of the sphere, and the center of their sphere is where the meeting with sisko happens. And they influence every timeline they exist in to make sure that sisko exists in all of them, which is why in some timelines they'd posses a woman to make sure sisko is born.
