I liked both, but I think Nicole DeBoer was the better actress, and her presence on the show added something special to the final season. The only thing I didn't really like was when Ezri hooked up with Worf. I could see it coming a mile away - hmmm, they're in a shuttle together. Hmmmm, they're getting shot at. Hmmmm, they crash in a jungle... gee, where's this going, writers? Then, in the very next episode, Ezri suddenly, out of the blue realizes she's in love with Julian?:scream: You know, I heard people complain that DS9 was like a soap opera in space, but I never really understood why people said that until I saw those two episodes...

That being said, I think they did a lot of good things with Ezri, especially considering that they only had one season to introduce and completely develop her character before the end of the show. And I have to say I loved "Field of Fire".:vulcan:

As far as Jadzia... I liked her, but Terry Farrell's performance felt slightly flat. Also, the writers seemed like they had a really hard time getting a handle on the character.

Another $0.02 about Our Lady:

I believe it was Jack Nicholson's Colonel Jessep, of "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" fame, who said, "There is nothin'--and I mean nothin' sexier...than a woman you have to salute in the morning."

Aside from his admittedly crude context--you can kinda see his point. There is a reason for the stereotype of "The Beautiful Princess". There's just something about "high position" that adds to the natural charisma of femininity. (It could go for guys too, but not as much--many of the heros in fiction are outlaws, or otherwise low in position).

Perhaps it's what Ayn Rand suggested, that romantic attraction is an expression of ones values--and that subconciously, the girl embodies an ideal for a guy--effectively becoming a heroine of sorts.

Whatever it is, the fact that Ezri is an heiress to a wealthy and powerful mining corporation, I think, counts for something. Effectively, one could call her a princess--albiet a capitalist princess rather than a royal one.

It might have been a good quote if he hadn't meant it in an unambiguously derogatory way, which point I think you failed to appreciate.

Jadzia, Jadzia, Jadzia, Jadzia! All day long, by leaps and bounds, by light-years and by God would I always pick Jadzia over Ezri, the Walt Disney version of a Star Trek character.

just gotta share what my friends said the other day after finally watching s7.
dont remember exactly but something like this. "Jadzia is the type of girl you want to spend a crazy weekend with but ezri is the type you want to live out the rest of your life with."
and i completely agree, although i'm not exactly objective in the matter. had a thing for nicole since the dead zone. :-)

Oh yeah? John Smith tried it in "The Dead Zone", and look how things turned out.

Jadzia, Jadzia, Jadzia!

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree, as well. :)

point taken :) but i still like ezri more.

Well, I hardly think we could see Jadzia as a lifetime partner, "Free Spirit" that she is. I don't know how Worf was able to handle her flamboyant personality.

I think, if plans for marriage were to go up in flames with Jadzia, a man could take comfort in "maybe she was never my type--too wild..."

With Ezri, if it doesn't work out, the same man would more likely rack his brain and soul, asking himself, "Why? Where did it all go wrong? What could I have done differently?"

(Frankly, I'm suprised the relaunch writers never had Bashir go through that, after...)

I thought Ezri was...gross. Like my sister kinda gross.
Her character was WEAK...the acting was average I saw her on some other show...something weird...and it was the same approach.

The thing is Jadzia was acted averagely too but there is a difference that sets well with the fans. Jadzia was sure of herself, strong and no damsel in distress. She was Star Fleet and had Years if not hundreds to draw upon and if that led to another boring Kurzon story then so be it.

Jadzia was fun...Ezri was a victim....

...that is all.

VICTIM?

Who saved Worf's neck in the Badlands?

Who saved DS9 by shooting down a Vulcan psycopath?

Who--

(Keep it together, Rushbo....)

yeah, for a "confused" woman, she's pretty hardcore.

btw, just to point out. is this entire subforum about dax? i'm telling you, 90% is dax related.. not that i mind though.

It's a recent development. Normally 80% of threads are about Dukat. :rommie:

On the subject of lifetime partners I wouldn't have married either of them. My "marry immediately" from DS9 was and always will be Kira Nerys. (I've had a thing for Bajoran women since Ro Laren.) For me, this is just a comparison of two Daxes, neither of which I found all that entertaining. Forced to choose, though, I chose Jadzia because she's more of a grown-up to me. Ezri was too cute, too wide-eyed and too young for someone who was supposed to be a counselor (seriously?). The first time I ever saw her on screen I thought "Disney Trek" and since then my estimation of Jadzia has skyrocketed. Ironically, Nicole De Boer didn't seem grown up to me until Dead Zone, and then I just thought she was a bitch.

So, can't pick her.

Jadzia, jadzia, etc.

"Disney Trek"?

Well...I often thought she reminded me of some of the classic Disney Princesses...something of a mix between Ariel and Belle...but I wouldn't call that a bad thing....

(After all...one could actually call Jadzia a mixture of Esmerelda and Jasmine--with some Nala thrown in for good measure. ;))

in the final season, yeah. but i wouldn't say she was a bitch the entire series.
actually it would be interesting to see how TDZ ends up. the last season screwed up the series bigtime. walt dieing, sarah getting back together with johnny, the sarah-stillson thing...

EDIT: if you want to see her at her best. check out "NYC:Tornado terror" and "Christmas town". i especially liked the last one.
