Jadzia Dax and Sexuality

I think she must have seen Bashir at first as being immature, arrogant, sheltered, uninteresting, and possibly even shallow.

Can't imagine why. ;)

As for Jadzia: She obviously likes to party. Kobayshi makes a good point that I hadn't considered, though, about joined Trills being more likely to be bi simply because of their memories of male and female hosts (although it's probably not that simple - just because a Trill might remember stuff like this from past hosts, doesn't mean they would necessarily still like it).

And I thought Jadzia was perfect for an old stooge like Worf. They really brought out the best - and, sometimes, worst - in each other. Plus, the "Klingon bachelor party" episode was bloody hilarious. So I don't see why people keep ragging on Jadzia/Worf, because I thought it was brilliant.

Personally, I think that Change Of Heart is great., even the B-plot is quite good. (Quark distracting Bashir by talking about Jadzia was masterfully executed).

Well he really did seem that way in the first seasons, one of my favorite Bashir moments of all time is during the first episdoe where, he's talking about how he could have had any job assignment he wanted but, he chose DS9 since he's excited about getting to practice "frontier medicine", and Kira glares daggers at him and makes sarcastic remark about him hopping he finds "us natives friendly" or something to that context. I do believe his hiding the fact that he's genetically engineered made him insecure and as a result made him feel as if he had to put up false pretenses of being more 'normal' then 'normal'.

I agree also that the memories of many lives as both men and women would make a Trill somewhat bisexual, of course they're people as unique and diverse individually as humans and so it would depend on the particular person that's being joined, it would also depend on say, if you're talking about a male with very heterosexual tendencies and then he's joined with a symbiont that had 5 life times coincidentally all female. The blend between host and symbiont life times is a complex one indeed, not to mention the fact that we don't know if the symbiont themselves don't have core personalities of their own that follow the hosts.

Speaking of bi sexuality for all we know if you turn out to have bi sexual tendencies in your physiological evaluation that might earn you "brownie points" with the symbioses commission if you're a candidate for joining since they'd figure you'd be slightly better adept to deal with the changes you'll be experiencing post joining.

^ In that case, the symbiosis committee would love me.

Ah but you'd still have to prove you're the bestest academically and athletically and hope the joined Trill evaluating you isn't a total ass hat. Would you even want to be joined if you were a Trill? :O

P.S. I'm aware bestest is not a word....

Academically? In terms of academic and scholastic merit, nationwide (U.S.), I was in the 98th percentile. I aced the California Achievement Test, all 5 sections and for the high school level, in the 7th grade.

Athletically? I'm fairly certain I once successfully completed a pull-up. :shifty:

It's a perfectly cromulent word.

Threads like this make me wish DS9 was being made today and not the mid-late 90s. I think areas like this would have gotten much better exploration.

And, FWIW, I think the symbiont not sexual at all. The sexual preference is determined by the host at the time. As a result, a symbiont will end up with a variety of sexual experiences to draw from and that can influence the host.

For example, Jadzia may have been completely heterosexual before joining, but afterwards she now has all these memories to draw from that would make her open to, say, having a sexual relationship with Lenara Khan.

That definitely makes sense. More than 90 percent of her memories now are of things she didn't experience herself. Which means that when she tries to draw on her experience for anything, most of the time, it will be on the experience of some other host.

Even if you're emotionally open to a homosexual relationship though, if your body isn't chemically wired for it, it's not going to happen. Otherwise those camps intolerant parents send their gay children to would have a much higher success rate.

Jadzia was open to a relationship with a woman her previous host was married to because of the potency of the memories of being attracted, but I don't think her body physically responds to females in general.

Just like you can't pray the gay away, you can't pray the straight away either.

Even if you aren't "chemically wired" for it, you can always go through the motions. Women have been doing it for money for millennia, not to mention the marriages of convenience.

Yeah, you can, but you wouldn't enjoy the sex. I can't exactly claim to be an expert on the female mind, but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of them would prefer not to be prostitutes.

Why can't you feel emotional intimacy or somebody who you have no desire to sleep with anyway? Why can't two heterosexual men or two heterosexual women love enough each other to want to spend their life together, but only sleep with members of the opposite sex? I'd like to think in the evolved 24th century, people can accept the situation where you get emotional fulfillment and physical fulfillment from the same person and don't try to pretend otherwise.

Actually, people spend a lot of time together without being physically attracted to one another, it's called friendship.
