Ford has tossed his name back into the list according to reports.

Paramount's desire to restart their Jack Ryan franchise may be helped by the one star to have played the character more than once - Harrison Ford.

Talking with The Sun, Ford admits the Tom Clancy-invented character is one of the few he's played that "I thought worth re-exploring again".
...
In recent months, movement began again with talk of a new story not based on one of Clancy's books. This allows the studio to go either old or young with the character, which is why Ryan Gosling's name was linked earlier this year to the role.
...
The actor(Ford) says "That's a character that I think you could revisit acknowledging the passage of time and his increasing age. It wasn't age dependent that character and his experiences were chockablock full of recipes for good engaging movies so that's a character I wouldn't mind revisiting."

It seems after being in pseudo-retirement with only 2 movies(Hollywood Homicide & Firewall) to his credit this decade prior to Indy 4 Harrison is looking to get firmly back to marquee status.

Good for Ford, although I've never warmed up to anyone other than Alec Baldwin playing Jack Ryan.

I think Ford should stay away from these roles and accept roles better suited for his age, a la Clint Eastwood

^^^^
I'd be all for that but it would be ripe for criticism. I can see it now being mocked as Air Force One:2

The script Gosling was attached to was called By Any Means Necessary so I assume that is still the script that is being mentioned here in the Sun article.

I think Ford should take on a role that doesn't bore him. Then maybe we might finally get the Ford we haven't seen since...what? I think Sabrina was the last movie I liked him in, which was still on the downward slope of his career trajectory, and that was thirteen years ago!

Too bad they missed the chance to do exactly that until that fiasco with Ben Frakking Affleck. The original, unbutchered "Sum of All Fears" explored a very different side of an older Jack Ryan. It would have been a perfect role for the modern-day Harrison Ford, IMHO. But they blew any chance of that. (Well, I guess they did. We are getting another Hulk movie after all, so I suppose anything is possible.)

I say make "Jack Ryan" the TV series. If it's successful, you can have a different book each season.

Maybe they'll have Gosling be a rookie for Jack Ryan. They can't have him as his son(thank god) because Ryan only has a daughter.

Personally I would get annoyed at being stuck with a younger actor who either has to

A. Be my son(Indy 4)

2. Be my rookie(That movie he made with Josh Harnett)

I've thought for sometime now that they should do an HBO mini-series of Rainbow Six.

No, Jack has a son and a daughter.

Yup, I don't remember which book Jack Jr becomes a major player though, was it Red Rabbit?

actually, IIRC, as of Bear and the Dragon, he had 2 sons and 2 daughters. certainly he had 3 kids by Debt of Honor.

no, Teeth of the Tiger. Red Rabbit was the retcon flashback with the Pope. (the only one i've not read...)

I'm with you on that one. I really like Harrison Ford as an actor but I wish Alec Balwin had been given more than just The Hunt For Red October.

A version of Debt of Hono(u)r would be cool. Ford's age wouldn't matter too much. They could cast someone younger as John Clark to do the action stuff.

Harrison Ford is becoming the new Stallone of revisiting the roles of his past. I guess it's hard getting old in Hollywood especially if your roles haven't adapted much with time.
