J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on VOY

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I am only protesting who the target was in this joke.

A line is crossed when you're targeting the actors.

Nonsense! I'd love to fuck Scarlett Johanssen

Did That offend you? Well so what

Ryan isn't even the target. His penis is the target. She simply facilitates it getting aroused and allowing him the use of a double entendre to describe his wang

And if I search the "Janeway is sexy" thread with a fine tooth comb, I will, at no point, come across any references about Mulgrew (the actress) being attractive?

Some people simply enjoy pretending to be "offended" as though that even means something

This thread tangent is "my" fault? :alienblush:

No, the tangent was due to {Emilia} and myself. The joke had been ignored by several posters (all was well) then suddenly, the joker was accused of sexism and entitlement by one of those people who spends their entire life "being offended"

That was the thing that brought me in

An innuendo about a woman being so attractive that she makes your penis erect neither demonstrates sexism nor entitlement. Male sexuality does not equate to female oppression (not yet anyway)

And if the double meaning offends you then so what. You being offended is meaningless drivel. It doesn't give you any rights, it doesn't mean that we must "respect" your offence, it doesn't mean that you are the victim of an injustice.

It means fuck all

Personally, I quite liked the joke but I'm British. We are raised on a diet of porridge and Carry on films

Now if you'll excuse me, there's a young man at the door who I'm paying to give my passage a good, thorough seeing to. It hasn't been serviced in such a long time.

I'm sorry, I can't talk about jokes because us feminists have no sense of humour. :(

My girlfriend is a feminist and has a sense of humour. My mother is a feminist and has a sense of humour. I am a feminist and have a sense of humour

Perhaps it's just you?

The joke isn't sophisticated but so what?

If you want to discuss feminism then start a thread. I'd be happy to post in it. As far as I'm concerned, calling people sexist and entitled without justification is far more unacceptable than non subtle sexual innuendos

I haven't, but I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean, anyway. An unfunny joke is, by definition, a lousy one. The whole point of jokes is to be funny.

No it isn't. Unfunny jokes (such as Christmas crackers) are designed to make everyone groan. The point is to have a shared moment of disappointment ( which in itself can be funny)

That's your opinion, you are not the boss of humour (thank God) and I'm sorry but a woman being referred to as sexually attractive is not sexism. Sexism is believing that a woman is only a sexually attractive object and nothing more. There's an entire thread about Janeway being sexy. Nobody on that thread is suggesting she doesn't have other dimensions to her existence beyond being sexy. The fact that you can't separate the two is disturbing. Viewing women as sexual beings is not sexism. Never has been, never will be

Again, your opinion. I'm still not sure why your opinion on humour is more worthwhile than anyone else's. When I don't find something funny, I feel no need to comment. Not my cup of tea. So what? When I read a post that is so profoundly tedious that it offends me, I ignore it rather than demand that people meet my expectations for entertaining posts

People are free to make whatever jokes they like, but maybe folks should aim higher and find appropriate targets for their humor, instead of going for the cheapest, basest riffs imaginable.

It's a shame some people don't want any quality in their humor.

It's not as if the guy posts a new offensive joke everyday. It was a one off joke that you didn't like. Again, so what? Move on. Why pretend it's some kind of international incident when it's nothing more than a bit of silly innuendo

Rubbish. :p Innuendo is an intentional double meaning; the sexual content is deliberately implied, it's not the "fault" of the person doing the interpreting if there's only one intended hidden meaning.

Gibberish :p innuendo can be intended. Innuendo can be accidental. Innuendo can be interpreted differently (ask Janeway7trulv, she interpreted it without the double entendre)

Didn't like Porridge, more into Open All Hours.

Are you enjoying the new season with Granville in charge?

Funnily enough, I was referring to the oats but since you bring it up, Porridge was way better than Open all hours. More pathos and smarter dialogue. I also liked the fact that there was a gay character on TV in the 70's who wasn't the butt of the joke.

I remember there was an episode where a few of the characters (who couldn't read) asked Fletch to write them letters to each of their partners making it clear that infidelity would not be acceptable including Lukewarm (the gay character). Then all the partners come to visit (including Lukewarms boyfriend Trevor) and realise they've all received the same letter

There was just something intelligent and progressive about the comedy in "Porridge"

Did you ever get round to watching "15 Storeys High"

That doesn't make any sense dear. I didn't make a joke

Also, humour exists on a spectrum in much the same way that sexuality or beauty do. To believe that you have access to the definite version of any of those things is foolish

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I continue to wonder how using standard slang is considered a joke at all. Either way, being a joke doesn't make the comment any better.

I love watching people give out verbose, thin-skinned rants about how other people should have thicker skins.

I love people who post rubbish aimed at a specific poster but word it in a way that makes it seem like it's aimed at no one in particular because their balls are currently in their mothers purse

Forsooth! The ban games AFOOT!

WE MUST FIND OUT WHO IS PLOTTING TO OVERTHROW THE VATICAN AT THE GERMAN EMBASSY!

Relax, just clowning a bit.

You know something, the phrase "sitting down for a bit" takes on a whole new meaning for computer nerds and people.

Why?

Well, everything you see on a computer screen is a bit.

So you're really sitting for a bit when you're sitting in front of a computer screen.

I have all of 15 Stories on my hard drive now. Watched the first episode, but I wasn't that impressed. Maybe I'll get back to it if the mood strikes me, but it seems unlikely.

Here's my problem with Open All Hours VS Porridge. I live in a tiny country that had 2 channels that were only on 12 hours a day, and no cable till I was 14. Not my house, the entire country. Might as well have been the 50s somewhere civilized. Porridge was played before I was born, and then replayed once when I was nine. Open all Hours, like Faulty Towers on the other hand was syndicated. It was always on.

They brainwashed me.

I thought Mr Humpries gave as good as he got on Are you Being Served. :)

Oh, I'm pretty sure I worded it to seem like it was aimed at you. And look, it worked! :p

I mean really, the sort of manly men who can dish out sexist jokes but erupt into multiple thousand-word rants on receiving the tiniest pinprick of criticism in return ought really not to be trash-talking, is all. It rather gives the game away. It sabotages the impression of bluff manliness you are plainly anxious to convey.

Isn't pricking a prick, on the road to cannibalism?

Manliness? What on Earth are you talking about

Firstly, who dished out the joke?

Secondly, explain how it's sexist?

Thirdly, where did I receive criticism?

Fourthly, where have I ranted? I have articulately explained my issues with the person who started accusing the joker of being sexist and entitled. Please show me where I have ranted?

 at that last particularly. It can't be denied that you have a natural, if somewhat unintentional, comedic gift.

No, I'm not going to explain basic concepts to you like what a rant is or why it's maybe wee bit sexist to insult women with references to one's penis. You're presumably an adult human with opposable thumbs and access to the grand miracle of the Internet, go forth and figure out the basic social graces on your own time. I'll simply leave you to reflect at your leisure on, and to apply to your own conduct as you see fit, the wise words of the immortal philosophical collective 116 Clique:

It's bleak, grey and a celebration of the mundanities of life (no laughter track) depends if you like that sort of thing. There's some very good stuff in there

There's some good will towards Open all hours but I think most people regard Porridge as Barkers greatest achievement (including the Two Ronnies) I'm not a mad fan or anything but whenever it's on, it always entertains and Barker's performance is perfect

Sorry but that doesn't mean anything.

If you have a problem with anything I've said then elaborate and explain. I'm happy to clarify anything you want

If no one edits, it's happened again (Not exactly but similar.).

Big Jake thought that he was replying to Gov Kodos or me, probably kodos. :(

But now because of rapid posting, it looks like he is agreeing with Hux and congratulating Hux for being a smart cookie.

It's not the 4 pages gap between staff meeting and meeting staff, but it is underlining a flaw in this method of communication.

Sometimes a reply is not a reply to what you think it is replying to.
