Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

She was definitely born for the stage and (it would seem) only does tv or movies to pay the bills.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

It's her memoir. She's not required to write about what others decide she ought to, nor are we required to read it if she doesn't discuss what interests us.

Thank you, Capt. Obvious

I think the Theatre and her obsession to be associated with it has only transpired in later years. Im sure when she was in her buddy 20s she wanted to be on every screen in NY and LA , im sure :). I have not seen her in theatre(again not a huge fan) but i can imagine she immerses in it with so much ease. She is wayyy over due Hollywood Walk of Fame for realllll:techman:

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I don't want to spoil the book for those who want read it fresh. She does talk about the differences in the kind of acting required for tv vs the kind required for stage.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

An idiots guide to acting.. Does she include sleeping your way to the top in that also :wtf::guffaw::guffaw:..Sorry , just could not resist

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

honestly, I had never heard of her until ST...she's a "b" list actress as far as Hollywood is concerned

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Shes a "b"list actress as far as Hollywood is concerned[\quote] That sh!t is messed up right there.. Hopefully she will be credited for her art in her home town and foundation of true art, good ole NY:)

The late great Joan Rivers was a comedic geunious and she was snobbed by Hollywood .Hollywood isnt a place that honors people who have come from a creative background. If you have a pair of good buzookas and an airhead. Hollywood wants you. Its the nature of the beast unfortunately

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

sad but true...its a different "target demographic"

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I go to Hollywood quite a bit( havent be back for two years tho) and the whole sense of the surreal falseness of it all is so privilant. I certainly would not live there thats for sure. I prefer to be where people are real ..Is it all the Voyager cast ( with the exception of Mulgrew ) still lives there?

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I don't know where they live. They're all at least middle-aged by now. None of the cast members besides Ryan, have gone on to enjoy particularly healthy Hollywood careers. I assume they like what they're doing well enough not to quit or maybe they feel stuck; having not been able to develop careers in other fields.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I find your obsession with the J/7 Mulgrew/Ryan thing more than a little creepy and stalkerish. Are you in therapy? :guffaw:

No, I'm serious. It's creepy.

Memory is plastic and unreliable. Every time you remember something you essentially read the file then write it back, and this rewrite is colored by your thoughts and emotions at the moment you do this, and this causes the memories to alter like a game of telephone. The more often you revisit the story, the more transcription errors. Damn, where's my checksum!

Hopefully fans will consider this before they slam Nichelle Nichols again over her memory of MLK.

I can't speak to all of them, but McNeill has gone on to do a lot of work behind the camera, especially directing and producing. He hasn't been 'stuck' anywhere.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

McNeil falls into the category of "likes what he's doing well enough". Good for him.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Love is creepy.

It's weird that the only reason that the other person doesn't ring the police, is that they're in love too.

People don't want to be loved the most, they want to be loved just enough by the right person.

Being loved even a little bit by the wrong person is a world of odd mail and cut brakelines.

I believe in the funny.

I think a love scene between Kate and Jeri would be hilarious especially because they hate each other.

Watching them trying to retain bile would make my day.

The Queen of the Spider people get up was not sexy, and it was obviously designed for a 40 year old woman (the twins were a different characters. Demonica and Malicia.) with a bashful 40 year old body. At the time I was a miss as to why Jeri wasn't shoe horned in to something similar but more revealing? Not because she is attractive and sexy but because Ryan was hired to be attractive and sexy because the rest of the cast couldn't be trusted to pull off attractive and sexy and needed a stunt Barbie.

It really felt like a f##k you moment.

"Hey Barbie, anyone can be a Barbie, look at me out Barbie you, Ha! Go #### yourself Jeri."

Although right now, I'm wondering why "Captain Janeway" played along with this farce when she should have just ordered Kim or Paris to play Queen Arachnia of the Spider-People, so that we the audience could be in for some hilarious quasigay romance as Chaotica tries to rape Kim.

And honestly if Chaotica was just a hologram (with no terminal stds or weird pregnancy fetishes) why not distract him with sexual acts? Lives were on the line for ####s sake. If the actor playing the part was prettier, Janeway would have molested Chaotica to save the day.

How vain.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I think the character Jeri was suppose to portray was done so excellently and with finesse that she would much prefer to stand by the wayside and look at her accomplishment. Audrey Hepburn was the same way. Secondly, how can you include creepiness and eeriness into two characters (Seven and Janeway)whose only primary reaction in the world was sparked from symbolic logic. It is also one good reason why this small group of people are still retrieving bits of episode and mauling all over it. I do this just to get a glimpse of how I would like this world to be and to see a well deserving crew get home and to long live its' salutations.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Jeez, people. I'm starting to think Shatner was right.:guffaw:

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I read Born With Teeth by Kate Mulgrew (advanced reader's copy). She barely mentions Star Trek. A few harmless observations. Mostly how she got the role. No dirt. No gossip. She does not mention either Jennifer Lien or Jeri Ryan in any context, much less by name. She does not mention Orange is the New Black at all.

IIRC she mentioned in an interview that the book was ending at/near the start of the Trek series, something about it being a natural ending place for that part of her story. :vulcan:

I actually wondered when I read that, if it was ending with
the reconnection with her daughter.
Feel free to NOT confirm or deny that speculation. ;)

If you're suggesting
Mulgrew was 12 when Ryan was born.
